RX-7+winter
i do, and i'm a big idiot for doing so.
salt and snow is the 20 year old car's enemy.
although after snowfall it is really fun driving around drifting everywhere, not on purpose. and on a side note this kind of driving, around highly populated areas has resulted in me shitting my pants a few times because of close calls.

I did for two winters. It actually got around fairly well. I put mud/snow tires on the rear; full seasons on the front-with all tires at a lowered pressure for better traction. And two sand bags over the rear axle. I also usually started in second gear from a full stop.
I drive my old -SE around for 2 winters, but rust finally got to her. But she was rusty when I got her.
I've never been the kind to put my car away for winter. I plan on driving my new SE all winter too, I just need to get her rust proofed and undercoated first...
REX's drive great in the winter as long as you know how to control oversteer, which WILL happen...

Yeah, so long as your car isn't currently rusting out, and you know how to drive, there shouldn't be a problem. it's actually really fun, and you can scare the crap out of other drivers as you drift around corners.

I agree completely!
It's tons of fun!
And personally I find oversteer a lot easier to control than understeer!
If you have an open diff, it is one of the best winter cars out there.
If you have an LSD... well, have fun keeping the tail behind the nose.
Heck, have fun just trying to turn around in a snowy parking lot, although in this case the problem is the opposite - the car would much rather crab sideways than actually turn.
I would disagree with the rust... if it's rusty, go for it, since it can only get worse no matter what you do. If it's not rusty, again it can only get worse. (voice of experience watching a non-rusty car turn into a crumbling mass of iron oxide... stupid Southern cars)

I live in florida too. We dont get snow but you can really get used to drifting in the rain and mud here! Theres alot of rain and mud this year.
BTW: Can I tell from the out side if I have an LSD rear? If I dont have a little weight in the rear, my car just wants to do donuts on wet asphalt. Its real hard to take off straight at any kind of speed.

I driven my car through 2 winters and i've never used sandbags or snow tires... NO problems what so ever. It was actually easier to drive in the snow than my old Jetta. Although this year i'm going to be getting another winter beater so my car doesn't dissolve anymore.
FB's + snow is a ton of fun I agree. I've used mine for the past 2 winters, and unless it looks like I will this winter too. I took no special measures (ie winter tires, sand bags) and still got around just fine. You have to short shift a lot of the time to control spin from a stop but its all good. I can't wait to see how it goes with my newly installed GSL rear end, this should be fun.
I loved driving my '7 in the winter... I live near the base of a ski resort so there is a LOT of snow here in the winters... no LSD, no extra weight over the back and bald all-season tires all around.. I made a lot of money off of dumbass tourists who got stuck in their four wheel drives who thought I couldn't make it up to the lodge...

Not me. I bought a Grand Am as my winter, and then another RX7 that had never been driven in the winter.
However I drove my first RX7 in the winter and that car was the best car I have ever driven in the snow. Minde you I put snow tires on it. But it was great.
They are great winter cars, its just that road salt is very very hard on them, espeically the undercarrage.

I just got my first 7 so I can't claim to have tried it yet. I will most likely use it since snow is an every other year affair here. When it does snow its only around for a day or two anyway. I'll Durango it to work on snow days since I live off a death highway. I am looking forward to parking lot and back road drifting in the snow in my off time though!
i had one that was already pretty rotted out so i put some big snow tires on it, the biggest i could find, and it was awesome. man i loved that car, untill one of the brackets that holds one of the control arms that ties to the rear axle rotted off. haha
