Ugh, you can always save the money for something important, like when you need it for emergency. You don't have to spend it... you can just save it. I won't make myself live paycheck to paycheck for a car, I'd rather have a better life. If you have a good life then you have nice things...

I have a friend, he is 26 and he is still not done in a 2 year college. He is living paycheck after paychecks, and he owes alot of money with credit card bills, "girlfriend" all because he spends every penny on tools [that he rarely use], R/C cars [I had it and I gave it up after 2 months, it's a money eater], buying stupid **** like comic books [$10 each], eating out every single day, go to movies every weekend. And he is broke all the time, he is not even paying for rent. I tried to convince him to save his money, so he can have a more relaxing life, but no, he told me "what am I going to do with the money in my saving account? so I will have money left for my kids when I die?" I just gave up on him, he complaints about everything, especially him being broke all the time, how he wants to move out but he won't save up. Now we don't even talk anymore, cause I got a new job [6 years younger than him] that pays more than he does and he works at 2 different jobs plus I got the FB cheaper than his 510 by half and it's autocross ready and all that crap, then he get all jealous and never call me and my bro to hang out anymore. I don't hate him or anything but... yeah.

I don't know why I wrote this, but I think that life is more important than just cars or what you like... make yourself and live for an easier life is better than anything in my opinion.

Life IS about what you want. If you spend your whole life working and saving money and never buying what you want you will never be happy. I'm not saying live for the moment, I'm saying do what it takes to make being alive an enjoyable experience.

Well said yer, the rotary experience is well worth a little indulgence. And it doesn't have to be expensive.

My 84/85 GSLs save me lot's of money over driving something else for my daily commuter, initial cost is low (~$1500), repairs are infrequent and I do all the work myself and because the cars are 22 years old I buy minimal insurance.

All this adds up to lots of money saved compared to my other car, a 2002 Mazda MP5. This car cost $17,000 (I'm still making payments) and full insurance needs to be purchased. True, it beats out the 7 a little bit on power, fuel economy and handling, it's a fun car to drive, but the overall costs per mile are much more than the 7 and I still prefer the rotary.

And I save so much money on the 7 that I can use it, when I want to, to add upgrades and cosmetic details (mostly the latter, I prefer to keep the cars looking and running like they just came from the dealer). I would argue that the first gen RX-7 is one of the least expensive and most enjoyable cars you can find these days, simply put, more bang for the buck.

So I guess what I am saying is you folks who are going broke supporting you rotary habits need to find something or someone else to blame, not your RX-7.

What I meant was... I wouldn't risk living a better life because of something that I want.
