rusty pressure plate useable?
okay, well i have abasically brand new pressure plate with only about 500 miles on it from my old engine... but it hasnt been used for a year now, and has rust on it, i was wondering if it was still usable. i think it is just surface rust, oh and the clutch disc too, if anyone knows...

Should be fine, just take a scotch pad to it or some fine grit sandpaper.
If its new, then the pressure plate spring should be fine, the clutch should grab well.Only way the rust would affect things would be if its deep and pitted on the running surface.....

I have rebuilt a lot of wrecks, sometimes have sat for years and had to take one apart to separate the plates because they were rusted together. The flywheel and pressure plate were deeply pitted, but you could still see the lathe marks. I sanded it smooth, put it together and drove it almost 100,000 mile before I sold it. Never noticed any difference in the way it felt or the way it worked. I have cleaned up flywheels on several projects and never noticed any bad effects. I have done the same thing with brake discs. As long as it is flat, don't worry about it.
