1979 Continuous Fuel Flow

Good God! If you turn the key on, fuel starts spraying out of the carb jets, into the engine.

That's not normal, right?

Fuel Pump Relay??

Just got PM, saying might be carb related. Makes sense. Will carbs interchange between a 79 and 83 without any special mods?

sounds like float level is off..needle being kept open..float should shut fuel to the bowl..if it's not right fuel leaks to the intake,,hard starting and flooding occur

Carbs should interchange between those years without issue. Is this a sudden problem? Did it occur after you swapped the carb?
I think float level is the place to start.

Floats

Sounds like you have a stuck needle valve or saturated float. Could also be trash in the needle valve seat. Good luck.

Car hasn't started in years... I'm definately getting too much fuel, you can smell it all over the yard when I have on for more than 5 minutes...

I was just given the "job" of getting it started today. Guess I'll put a switch in-line use it to cut the pump on/off as needed to see if I can get it to start... :0)

Thanks for all the help. It's been a long time since I've been around, and I forgot how nice and helpfull all of y'all are!

I had the same problem with my 83.. it wasnt started in YEARS.. my dad told me to tap/hit on the fuel bowl on the carb and it stopped it dead in its tracks.. the needle is stuck so tapping on it will probably free it up for you like it did for me.. So try that
