Rust

Hello,
Earlier today, I noticed a small amount of rust on a small metal support bracket adjacent to my battery.
It is a small metal piece that covers some kind of electrical connection underneath. Thankfully, does not appear to be touching car body. My original 1981 rx-7 GS has no rust elsewhere.
Appreciate recommendations about a product to deal with that minor rust to keep it from spreading. Figure I will need to sand away the small amount of rust before applying spray rust inhibitor.
Thank you!!

Just remove the coils and that bracket. Then strip the bracket, grind out the rust, and hit it with some etching primer and then use some high temp gloss paint on it and it will look like new.

Pretty sure the Coil Clamp Bracket is NLA from Mazda as I recall seeing them on Mazdatrix a decade ago and then gone. Luckily it's 1×12mm bolt and out. Simple enough to sand down and spray paint - powder coat if you want to make it the shining example amongst an engine bay of dirty parts!

Pull the battery up and take a quick peek at the tray. Over the years, you may find that battery acid runoff has corroded the tray and a similar retrofit may be needed there. That tray is also NLA, though...

To ensure the life of my battery tray I put a rubber battery tray with mat under my cars battery.

POR 15 is always an excellent anti corrosion sealer to apply to surfaces.

My metal battery tray under the plastic one was pretty corroded after 40+ years. A couple of years ago I wire brushed it real good and hit with etching primer and some grey paint I used on the waffles to seal it up.You can't see it under the better anyway but now I know its not going to disintegrate on me. I still have the OEM plastic tray but man is it brittle. I'm sure someone (KC?) could 3D print one easily if they had a mind too.

Yes - I can 3D print new battery trays. I still have the original tray from my 1979 so I can make a drawing from that one. I'll get one printed tonight and post it. I can make them in almost any color if needed.

I want to also add that if someone is using a smaller or bigger battery, I could also accommodate whatever size they need.
