Talking It Runs!!!

I finally started up my car. After 5 months of work...well, maybe 1 month of work, and 4 months of sitting I couldn't boost it at all, I still need another fuel fitting since I broke one of them, but I just had to hear it run again, so I epoxied the fitting to the carb. It held for long enough to tune the idle before it started a small leak and I turned it off. The fuel fitting have to be special ordered, metric thread on 1 side, -AN on the other. Luckily Robert(www.rotaryshack.com) had another one lying around and he shipped it to me, it'll be here early next week. Once that's here my car will be on the road again! I was very suprised at how easily the car started. The engine had not been turned over in 5 months, and it started right up once the fuel started flowing through the lines(3 secs at most). I have some information on my setup at www.cardomain.com/id/coldy13 In a week or two I will update that site with new pictures of the completed car. Just one more week until I can start driving it again

Everyone will probably laugh at the pictures Everything right now is just functional, I havn't taken the time to actualy make it look good yet. I still need to finish the exhaust, right now it's just a downpipe and presilencer, but it will only take a day or two to finish it. It's great having free access to a very well stocked machine shop

Sweet setup man! That's the first black 84'-85' interior I've ever seen. That's the best interior color.

hey man, i can see the mazda logo on the stereo, but i have not seen a 84-85 7 with a pushbutton stereo like that. and the vent, recirc. controls. It doesn't look like anything i've seen. My 84 -SE's controls are all pushbutton no slider. It just looks way different. what up ?

It's the base model stereo and vent contros... Our 85 base had the same thing, but I put in the stock stereo and amps from my -SE parts car...
The odd thing is that the base stereo doesn't have the eq. just the radio and casette...
That's also a Series 1 steering wheel if I'm not mistaken...

I think the wheel is the same for series 1 and 2 because my 83 has the same thing.

The EQ on the stereo did come stock, the car is an '85 GS, no sunroof. The steering wheel is from a Series 1, the stock one was very torn up and I found this one for cheap, I also like the 4 spoke look better. The dash is black, seats are grey, and the carpet is blue/grey. Just a few more days and it'll be on the street again

Actually, my dad just brought home the fitting Hopefully I'll be driving it tomorrow. He had one at his work that had the right thread on one side, so he just machined the other side down and put the right threads on it! I'm also getting 2 extra sent to me(thanks a ton Robert)because they are very fragile and hard to get. If I don't feel too lazy, I'll get the pics up tonight. My friend just picked up his '88 TII today, things are looking good around here I won't actually boost in until Saturday probably, I want to make sure everything is right first, I really don't want to waste all the work I've done by getting on it before I know it's all right.

Major thanks go out to my dad and Robert(www.rotaryshack.com) Without them supplying parts for me I probably wouldn't be finished until next year.

My cooling system all works perfect. I drove with a broken fan clutch(pulled less air than my interior vents!) for a month before I found out it was bad, but it still rarely went much past 1/3 on the gauge, and NEVER past 1/2, even in stopped traffic.

I'll still on my to-do list though, just not a top priority.

I told you the engine bay looks like **** right now, but it will be cleaned up. I know there's no fan clutch there, but I'll be picking up a new one tomorrow or on saturday, I managed to lose my fan durring the turbo installation

Congrats mate, love the car. There's just something about a blow-through turbo on a 1st gen... cheap, simple and effective. Especially with the Nikki carb! Plus the fact that you're doing the work yourself makes it even better.

There's a machined lip on the top of the carb that the hat sits on, and I put some sealer on it before I put it on, it's completely airtight. Also, the bolt that runs through the carb normally has another bolt welded to it that sticks out the top center of the hat to bolt it down.

actually, things arent looking good. i am the friend that picked up my turboII. last night i ended up racing an integra. sure enough a cop sees us and pull me over and not the other guy. i won, they should have got him. i might get my license suspended until i am 21(i am only 17). i did smoke the guy after i got traction though. i burn out in 1st and half of 2nd...lol. one of my friends was right behind me and said the race was pretty cool. he said i shot a pretty good flame out of both mufflers when i shifted . i am going to court on the 10/9 so we will find out how bad i get punished. i am hoping for a 1 year suspension with some probation or something.
