Running rich...what to do?

It takes me several minutes of work to get the thing running - pump it 7 or eight times, then crank w/o foot off the pedal and repeat(SEVERAL times) until it comes to life enough to where I can keep it running w/ my foot. Then, there is a bit of a bog when I floor it before it revs when I am below 3k(it is pretty responsive and quick reving other than that). This condition lessens as it reaches op. temp, but it will die if I take my foot off the throttle. Once it is awake, I can usually get it started everytime I try, but it still takes the 7 pumps and no pedal/choke to start it. *If I try to use the choke/throttle at all before it fires, it wont even try to start. I've pulled the plugs and they are BLACK. I also feel like the sucking sound from the carb is pretty loud when running.

I have done an emissions delete on the carb and gone through and double checked all of the places for leaks - I had one on the top carb gasket, fixed that leak and now it acts like this(it ran before, just a 1300 rpm idle)... As far as timing, I lined up the 1st dot(was told it should have yellow paint on it) on the pulley w/ the needle and put the distributor in lining up the dimple(on the dist. gear) w/ the protrusion on the dist. itself. To get it timed, it is cranked as far clockwise as it will go and it could use just a hair more(doing it at about 2k rpms). The mixture screw is 1 turn out and if I try turning in the idle speed screw to get it to idle, I cant start it at all.

I dont know to do! Can anyone help me?!?!?! If anyone happens to live near Amarillo, Tx, that would be super mega awsome!
