running into brake problems

Well, decided to get all 4 brake rotors for my 83 GSL. Well, the guy threw in 4 bearings for the front. Thanks Jarath. Well, I was putting the brake rotors on and the new brake rotots look different then the old brake rotors. I'll get pics sometime when im not so busy. Cant find the thread. Well, I put the innner bearing in the rotor and then put it on. Well, I ttry to put the outer bearing on and it fits in the rotor, but won't fit over the spindle??? , or whatever. The old bearing fits over it and in the rotor, but not with the outer race over it. So, I either got the wrong rotors, or wrong bearings. I went to the store and got some bearings and they didnt even fit over the spindle. I'll get pics asap for you guys or if I can find the thread I bought the parts from. Whats wrong???

I need my brakes done asap too, because i found 4 cracks in one of my old rotors.

They changed to larger spindles in 84 where the inner bearings are still the same but the outer bearings are larger.
Sure you don't have a 84?
Post a picture of your dash.

If you went to the parts store and bought outer bearing for a 83 and they were too small to go over the spindles then you have 84 spindles. Maybe not a 84 car but someone may at one time put them on.

The hubs are different so you can't install the proper outer race to go with the larger bearing. You need 84-85 rotors.

Neither one makes their own products.

Raybestos is just a brandname that is manufactured for them by the same company that makes the brakes for Napa Auto parts.
Beck arnley just imports everything. Alot of times what you get in the box is an original factory part.

When I get my new brake rotors, I should get new outer wheel bearings, correct?? Or should I just use the old ones?

The way you check is by cleaning the olds ones with something like brake clean. Then examining the bearings for any signs of pitting. If they look clean, repack them and reuse them. Bearings are good for a very long time.

Just a reminder. Before you install the new brake rotors use warm soapy water to remove the coating on the brake rotors.

Too late for that Doc, I'll remember that next time though. I would've done that, But the forum was down for me 2 days, so I didn't see your post, or couldn't get on the site. Thanks for the info though. I got the new 84 brake rotors on and they are great. On my old driverside front one, I found 4 cracks on it.

One question everybody. I got 84 spindles on my 83 and I got 83 hawk pads. I tried putting them into the calipers, but I think they fitted way to tight. ALso, the brake pads clips are gay.
