Running Funny... Help Please!!!

Hey everyone...

Question... My 81 12a is giving me a fit... It appears that it is not running on all 4 plugs... The car will start however when I go to give it gas it bobbles and spits and sputters...

If I disconnect the leading ignitor the car does not change in the way it runs.....HOWEVER if I disconnect the trailing ignitor the car shuts off.... I have tired to change ignitors.... no difference...

I appear to be getting fire to all 4 plugs... so I dont think its the ignitors or coils ...

One thing that is done on this car is the igniton system is not controled by the key...there is a switch and when you turn the switch on both coils are fired up... Meaning that power out of the switch goes to the leading oil and then there is a bridge over to the + side of the trialing coil to power it up.... is this a problem to have it bridged... It ran before... I just am trying to give all the pieces to the puzzle!

Any ideas?

Disabling the trailing should make a very minor difference in how the engine runs, not kill it. Your leading is down some where. Have no idea about bridgeing the 2. I would disconnect the trailing and troubleshoot the leading first, get it running, then work on the trailing.

The engine is fouling out the #2 rotor plugs...both trailing and leading... I pulled the plugs out today and cleaned them well...put them back in and it seemed to run well....then it seemed to foul out the plugs and revert back to what seems like a mis-fire....

Check the float level in the rear fuel bowl. I was fighting the same problem on a carb I just rebuilt. Turned out to be a large enough vacuum leak, it was pulling up the rear float. I forgot to plug the vacuum port the shutter valve actuator. I can be such a **** some days.

Disconnecting leading alone should make a difference in how it runs. It will normally still run, but power will be down. Disconnecting trailing shouldn't make a difference. However, if you are getting spark to all plugs, it sounds like the ignitors/coils are okay. It is okay to power both coil + by the same source. That is how it is stock.

Check the carb out as trochoid is saying. It would also be a good idea to check compression on the rear rotor. You could have a stuck or damaged seal.

I just wanted to add that I have nothing to add. The experts seem to have your issue well in hand...
