running exhaust pipes UNDER the axle, would this pose a problem.

Yeah, it's safe to weld right there. Just wait until you have to use a torch to cut the tank straps so you can remove a leaky gas tank

PS - Anyone know how safe it is to do welding while the pieces are ON the car? Is that how exhaust shops do it? Im just worried about the gas tank cause its like RIGHT there...
i think 83 and 85 are the same, as long as they are both stick shift.

part b) i never thought about that i just dropped the car off, and picked it up unexploded a few hours later....
