Running a car

I want to know if I pull my starter and leave the wires hanging, can I still push start and run the car?

Why?

Make sure you tape the ends of the wires real good, not only do you risk welding the wires to the underbody, but you also open yourself up to a full blown electrical fire.

Be careful!

Thanks.

thanks for the replies guys,

About 2hrs after posting, went through the haynes manual and then decided it was safe (BTW: I taped up all my loose wires, no worries there)

Go Figure, I just put a new starter in less then a month ago and now it doesn't work. Solenoid engages (gear go forward) and the starter motor works (spins when it's got power), but when the solenoid engages it won't trip the starter motor. Oh well, off to get another from Carquest.

So far so good... No welded together parts that are not supposed to be....

And I wanted to hit the meet this weekend. Hopefully they got another in stock so I can do a quick switch...

My RxBad,

I'm in Toronto and have a 12A starter that works perfectly sitting in my bedroom right now. I replaced my starter a month ago and it turned out I just had a dead battery (stupid stupid stupid!)

I kinda want to keep it for a spare, but if Carquest doesn't work out, feel free to throw mine in your car for the weekend. It's so damn easy to swap those things!

Unless you have a 13B, in which case I don't know if mine would work.
