Running on AVGAS

Now, I work in the Aviation Industry and I have access to large quantities of AVGAS.

I was wondering, has anyone had any experience running a rotary engine on AVGAS?? does it have any lasting effects on a rotary engine??

Unless things have changed, Avagas still contains lead. If so, you could consider your catalytic converters toast almost immediately.

Not sure, but I think the engine will tend to carbon up more as it doesn't burn quite as clean with lead.

Rotor motors like the lowest octane gas you can buy. They enjoy a non-predictable gas burn. Just the opposit of pi$ton motors. SCCA E Production street ported motors burn 87 octane.

I have heard that using fuel with lead in it can cause lead deposits to form around the apex seals. At the same time, I have a freind who uses AVGAS in his 3rd gen, but it makes over 400RWHP........

As previously mentioned, NA rotaries don't need high octane fuel. Back when the 1st gen was winning back to back championships, Mazda was running ~67 (or so) octane fuel in them.............

I use to be an A/C fueler I used AVGAS in my 12a I mixed it with Ultra 94. It ran perfect piston aircraft uses similar plugs as Rotary. I haven't tried it in force inductions yet, but I do know N/A have no probelms with it. My instructor told me I can use it in my car (Aircraft Mechanic). I also used Jet fuel JP-4 in my house boiler. Jet fuel is the same as Diesel except Jet fuel is more refine. The AVGAS vapor alone is VERY lethal higher flashpoint than GASOLINE.

Unless you are getting the Avgas rediculously cheap, or free, it's a waste of octane. If the vapors are that leathal, they may pose a problem coming out unburnt in the exhaust.

You will gain no horsepower as our cars are fixed at 9.4 compression ratio, so there is no advantage.

As for leaded gas my 13B BP ran on leaded (Australia still has leaded pumps) for 5 years without any problems.

Volitile should be the word not lethal (my fault). Lethal to handle as in fueling A/C on the tarmac in the open. In a combustion chamber its fine.
