Run in with an older celica....
I was just on my way home from tinting my windows, going down the highway, and suddenly there he's on my ***. We started to go at 75 mph. This guy walked past me vairly easy. I was in 4th. He was driving an older celica 86 or so, he had an exhaust, thats all I know forsure. Is that a normal thing to have a car like this pull away from me, I have an 82 with a 84 12a, and a straight pipe for exhaust.... thats about it so far. Just want some opinions and input.... I wasn't too pleased with the outcome myself...

Depends on how old the Celica. If its an 86, something's wrong with your car because those are the first of the FWDs and weigh as much as or more than the Camry of the same era with less power. However, an 85 or earlier thats not too surprising. They can be tuned like mad, are rear wheel drive, and stock out tourque and horsepower the RX by quite a bit.
And then there is the possibility that it was a de-badged Celica-Supra. In which case, I am not surprised at all.

I am pretty sure that it was an 86-87..... they are kindof short and stubby looking, they have a little spoiler on the back and flip up lights. Hmm... maybe there is something wrong with my car???

Huh... that shouldn't happen... I'm baffled. UNLESS... he had a Turbo AllTrac, or a lot more under the hood than stock. Did it have an airdam with round rally lights on it? I won't ask if it had turbo badges, since those are usually the first thing to get taken off.

love the braaaap
Thats your problem. You could have droped it into 3rd and taken him easy. In 4th, you would be at about 4500 rpm I think. Not exactly the best RPM for taking off in at that speed.

I don't know about that... 75 is pretty well maxing third and any speed given by it would have been lost in the shift. I am assuming this was a freeway quarter mile run.

I thought about dropping it to 3rd, but I figured by the time I downshifted and accelerated, I woulda had to shift right away, thus defeating the purpose of the downshift.....
