How many RPM can a stock 1984 rx-7 (13B) do, like what is the redline?
A racer that was interviewed on "High rev tuners" (a tv show) was a guy in the all motor class on the NHRA. he had a bright yellow 1st gen.
He said that he left the line at 13 big. which means that he goes much higher than that!

To be able to rev that high would be so sweet.
Can I do that?
I am in the process of buying an '84 rx-7 with a 13b, and headers.

On a basically stock 12a or 13b, from what I hear, there is no point in trying to go past 8000rpm, as you are not making any power.

An engine that is shifting at 13,000rpm, would be heavily modified, and STILL not last that long.

Cool car!
It looks good on the outside, but tell me about the engine.

from what ive read, its pointless unless your motor has been bridge ported, and if your going to 13k youll need hardened stationary gears so yours dont crack, carbon seals (not streetable) and various other ****, not to mention a beefed up fuel system, AND youll want a bellhousing cover so you dont loose your legs/feet when your flywheel decides to blow into 1000 peice at 13,000 rpms

Just because he launches at 13k doesn't mean he shifts that high. AJC on this forum has a low 10sec 1st gen and he was launching at about 11000rpm even though his shiftpoint would be around the 8000-9000rpm range.

The typical peak rpm of an n/a race engine is normally about 10000rpm.

Even bridgeports don't usually rev up higher than 12k, so it had to be a peripheral port, those can go 14k. And Onepointone is right, you would have to have a transmission shield for that, but it is usually the clutch that pops and goes into pieces everywhere. If you have any kind of ported rotary, it is very adviseable do get a shield.

I know a guy who lost his leg and almost lost his son to a clutch exploding. Do get a shield if you are going to rev up that high.

From what i have heard and seen, on a stock port motor anything over 8500, is like pulling the pin on the gernade, someting is going to blow up......

To get up to 10,500rpm you need at least:
Bridge or Periphrial Port
Harnened Stationary Gears
Carbon Apex Seals
Race Apex Springs
Clearance Rotors
And probably a couple more things I'm forgetting.

After that you also need to add a 3rd bearing in the middle of the engine for the eccentric shaft to rotate on. I know I'm leaving out a lot of things that need done.

To put it simple, if you want to rev that high, you need $$$.

It said "a brief stint at 10,500 rpm could spell the end"

the end is not the effect of taking the rev limiter off, 10500 rpms is the effect, and the end is the effect of 10500 rpms.
