I believe it just designates the development of the engine. Before 13B there would've been a 13A, before 20B there was a 20A and so on. These engines just didn't make it into production so you don't here about them much. Many said that the 12A that came out in the Rx-7 should have been called a 12B since it was quite a lot more advanced than the earlier 12A's.

are you talking about the letter stamped on the side of the rotor? its a certain weight balance. a learned this from a local guy that allowed me to watch the rebuilding of his t2 motor. he needed a new rotor and found that mazda stamped certain letters on rotors for their weight. when you mix rotors for different engines something about the letters cant be more than 2 apart other wise it throws off the balance of the motor. ill look and see if i can find the thread where he posted this.

Mayby your talking about the different classes of rotor design, like the eccetricy of the rotors' orbit?!? like the 10A, 12A, 13B, 15A, 20B, R26B all share the same orbit, and like 21A, 22A also shared the same orbit I forget the rest, because I don't think any of the other engines with different eccentric dimensions were ever actually made (15A, 21A, and 22A IIRC were scrapped in the wake of the oil crisis...... I can only imagine what kind of MPG a 2.2L 2-rotor would have had in the 70's :o)

It's clearly not as good as a class A. Get yourself some class A rotors if you want a strong engine.

its just a class of the rotor. no meaning really.. just a class. i guess if you REALLY want to you can weigh all the different letter rotors and find the weight for each class for all of us

ABCD

They're used for balance.

An A can be used with a B, but not a C. The letters have to be next to each other or the same in order for the rotors to work together. Otherwise, the engine will be out of balance.

Is that what you needed to know?

Um, not that I know of. Class A rotors are a certain weight and can be used with class B rotors. That's all the letters are for.
