 mechanics.

im trying to get my car though aircare. but every mechanic i talk to has some different theory on what i should do.

mechanic a: "oh, you dont want to have your airpump pumping air into the cats at idle.. you cool the cats and emmissions wll be worse"

mechanic b: "what you should do to fix your emmissions is bypass the ACV so that the airpump is always pumping air into the cats"

mechanic c: "yeah, what happens on these rotary thing is that the 'apex seals' dry out like old rubber bands"

etc.

all these are certified mechanics btw.

Sure hope I don't have to replace my rubber bands anytime soon. What with all the labour involved pushing them through the spark plug hole and seating them just right on the rotor.

Does c use a pencil or the Mazda tool to put them on?

You mean I bought the Mazda tool when I could have used a pencil?!?

Heck you could have used your fingers if they're long enough. But I would pull the engine out first.

Warning: Do not try this if the fit is tight since your finger may become trapped in the hole.

Lol... yeah, I had a rotory guy tell me not to use ATF to unseize my engine because it would "cause the rubber apex seals to expand too much, and when you run the car, you'll blow one".... heh.... yeah... right... aren't they metal?

And to think.. this guy worked at Rx7Heaven in Ottawa... another reason you shouldn't go there unless you have to! Though.... Eric got his engine rebuilt there, and he's pretty happy with it. Took them a month, and too much money.. but they got it done, and it *seems* to be done right.

The reason it took them a month is because the guy had to lose some weight to get his little fat fingers in the hole. I believe it was the Atkins diet.

The reason it was so expensive is because this same guy wouldn't stick to the diet, so they had to send him to the gym and get him a trainer....

Not anyone can be a rotory mechanics. Only the select few with long thin fingers excel!

Man it sure is scarry out there.

People are dumb. This stuff is too funny, and scarry at the same time.

I took my car to get the rad flushed, and the mech could not get it through his thick head that there was no problem with the car. It was like the fact that I wanted maintinance done was like way too much.

Any way like I said people are dumb

Just to let you know... Mechanic B is right.

I've just performed that on 2 cars! and it works like a charm. Just don't leave the car like that. Just do it for the test and then re-plumb it.

The first car I did this two (had a plugged cat on it (and I passed on the numbers with this setup)

The other car passed at speed but not at idle, so we did it and it passed with flying colors!

Because in piston engines 'seals' are some type of rubber. Instead of calling them apex 'seals', maybe we should call them apex 'straight rings' to help the piston mechanics understand?

And I hate looking at RX7s in the classifieds or EBAY- because most of them have some stupid thing to say like 'two cylinder', or 'four cylinder' or '40mpg', they use 'sports car' and 'automatic' in the same sentence. My favorite are the ones that say "never burns ANY oil"- then you tell them that the engine actually injects oil into the engine, so if it doesn't burn any then it is probably ruined by now.... .. . . ..
