Road trip to Cali from Texas!!!!
ok well this is something that is still up in the air but ..........i would love to go to SevenStock this year in October. Its still quite a ways away but i REALLY want to drive my Fb to Cali for this event. Well i wanted some suggestions from you guys about preparing for a long road journey that lies ahead for my FB. So far on the car (she all stock as of right now) this is what is new....Starter, Fuel Pump, Alternator (2nd gen upgrade), new OMP lines from OMP to carb, battery, and new oil lines to oil cooler, new rims and tires. What I would like to replace even though it does not need it BUT i know the present parts are most likely original....New 3 row Radiator from www.rx7.com, new water pump, new thermostat, definetly change spark plugs and wires and i DEFEINETLY need to rebuild my nikki carb. So that is what i have done so far ands this is the stuff i would like to replace. What i would like to know from you guys is what else should i replace on her that i may be overlooking? thnks for the info/help fellas!

If I was heading out on a big trip, I would start by going over the cars ignition system (buy spark plugs, wires, and rotor+cap if needed. Probably set the timing while I was at it.) Then I would change fuel filter, engine oil, and top up the tranny + rear end fluids. Definately some basic checkovers of the car: suspension, wheel lug nuts, and MOST IMPORTATLY tire pressure!! If I was gonna be driving the car continiously for long days, Id probably even premix my gas with some 2-stroke oil, or motor oil if I had to for extra safety. Id also make sure I had a nice lil toolkit, a liter of motor oil, some premixed coolant, and definately a roll of duct tape. I think thats about it haha maybe a little overkill but Id rather be safe than sorry lol.

I took my 76 J-spec Cosmo from San Antonio to SS5 no problems the whole way in fact we did better than most of the Turbos, This year we are planning on taking our 05 Rx8 and our J-spec 78 Rx-7 if they have SS9, Your FB should be just fine so long as it is in good tune.

To add to the pre-trip list: Flush the brake and clutch fluid, check/replace the brake pads, change all fluids and repack the front wheel bearings.
Long highway trips are actually easier on the engine than in town driving is. Your biggest worry will probably be heat and altitude changes. Depending on your route, that long climb uphill, out of the desert, usually requires the ac to be turned off. That is the only time my 00 Chevy van got warm. Even coming into Vegas, running 85-90 it didn't heat up in August, climbing the last set of mountains going west, it did.

I believe that a roadtrip is a large part of the fun when going to Sevenstock. You in your car and your friends... the road... rotary exhaust notes ...
Then arriving in Irvine, and seeing dozens and dozens of others who also caravaned from parts all over.
Sounds like an adventure
bah.. I live a little over an hour away so there goes my fun.

One of my regular trips to work is a round trip of 1600 miles with over 200 miles between service stations. If the car is in reasonable good condition there is should be no problem. I always carry spare fuel, oil and coolant. Spares are minimal: fan belt, spark plugs, head light bulbs, fuel filter, fuses and igniters. Check the wheel nuts can easily be unscrewed [I carry a strong brace], the spare tire is usuable, and carry a tow rope as the cost of towing is very expensive over long rural distances. Make certain you carry a spare set of keys!
Without being dramatic, carry details of the next of kin/person to contact in an emergency in your wallet. Also think what you would do if you lost your wallet, I carry a spare credit card and cash with my spare tire.
Take a break every three-four hours to keep fresh. Finally make certain your shoes are comfortable!
