return fuel line check valve
which way is it suposed to go? the only thing i could find was that it had an arrow, but mine has no arrow. ive been told to blow in it and use that to figure it out, but i dont know where to go from there.

yes, blow in it. mine did not have the arrow either. since it is a return, it is a check valve, meaning it will only allow fuel to pass through it one way. you want to blow through it and find out which way it allows air though. install it in so that fuel will only pass though it towards the tank and not back into the carb.

That's important because fuel will 'backwash'. When I do a dead headed setup, such as a Camden or whatever, I always block the return line because it will spill fuel onto your nice new painted engine. It happened to Tom's black with gold pinstripping '82. He kept smelling gas but couldn't find the leak. Then his engine showed signs of paint stripping.

Perfect_circle's car was having issues at the last race. When he would shut down the car, the secondaries would fill up with gas, making the next start really tough. Would the check valve cause this type of issue, or is he barking up the wrong tree?

I've cleaned brake booster check valves before. Just hose them up with WD-40 and blow through it. But since this is involving gas, maybe a good carb cleaner or Seafoam to eat off the varnish. I would probably try Seafoam first, if I had it handy, but otherwise just about anything should work. It's just a little plunger that slides back and forth (I assume).

LMAO. Well, you've certainly got all the bases covered. I'm sure you'll be alright now, but keep us posted. Maybe this will become the standard procedure for cleaning the check valves. We'll just need to know how long you used each product, in what order, and maybe some photos would help.

lol. i didnt do anything elaborate. just poured a little bit of seafoam in let it settle then blew threw it, (disgusting in know, it gets worse.) then spray some pb blaster in it, then blew it out, and repeated then with the brake parts clearner... appears to have fixed the problem, but it was also installed backwards......
but wait, cause i originally had it in the right way and still had a problem, then nick told me it was probably backwards, so i turned it around....didnt help. but tonight it started right up, havent had a problem with it. of course its still smoking, so i know its drinking a tad bit of coolant.

just because that worked for you doesnt mean i want to throw it in my car... lol. it could be a freak accident that it worked for you. of course im pretty sure my car at some rtv yesterday, cause like a dumbass when i was putting the intake back on, i didnt let the gasket sealant set up, and just tried to start it...... and then it would idle.
like no **** i thought, its still wet, it'll just get sucked in and not seal...D'oh
