Resurfacing a Pressure Plate?

I have 2 pressure plates that i have left sittting in my garage for a couple months that have some surface rust on them.

And I wanted to know if i needed to get them resurfaced like you would do a flywheel?

I recently just got both flywheels turned and the guy said i could just use sand paper to get rid of the surface rust but im not sure if i should do that. SO im just looking for some other opinions.

Here are some picturs.

Thanks
Alex

Use an orbital sander and a scouring (sp?) pad. That should get rid of the surface rust.

Don't bother resurfacing a pp, buy a new one. They are not that expensive. If it's only light surface rust and no major pitting, hit with a da, or even an electric sander with 120 grit paper. Sand lightly, if you sand too hard, you might taper the inner/outer edges of the surface, not good.

Get someone to throw it on a lapping table?...

All said and done its probably just as cost effective to go and buy a new one though, what do they go for? like a hundred bones?

Next time you store things rust may destroy, hit em with a bit of oil, and then just clean it off with brake cleaner when your ready to put em back in!
