Requesting pics of painted and uniquely modified Nikkis

I plan to rebuild my spare carb soon and am planning on painting it and was wanting to see what others have done. I searched a lil but didn't really find much.

If you want to do a decent job at painting it, you're going to have to remove just about everything, including the linkage. It can be a pain, especially if you forget how everything goes back together. I think they look good painted black as long as all the accessories are left unpainted and cleaned up. There's some good pics on Sterling's site.

One thing I'm doing with mine is using some Meguire's aluminum polish and a dremel brush wheel to polish up the air horn. It's more for performance than aesthetics since the air filter is going to cover it up anyway, but it should look nice when the filter is off. I'll put up pics in the build thread when I finally get the thing finished.

just clean it good. with the air cleaner on you can hardly see the carb. not to mention, when the paint decides to start coming off... if you want to paint it more power to you, but the chemicals that can be on/near a carb including carb cleaner, might screw up your paint job

Agreed Joe....why waste you're time on something that you really can't see and will give you no real performance gain?

My suggestion: Get a non-functioning carb, clean it up, polish it, paint it and leave it on your desk! Then take pictures of it and tell everyone it's on your car.

Thanks guys. Yeah I was planning on painting the base and large center piece black, either polish the air horn or paint it silver and paint the linkages silver. I have a RB power pulse intake and all my emissions are gone so my carb will still be visible.

didnt you just rebuild a carb? now you want to tear it all apart again to paint it? i just dont really see why. especially since its a carb and is going to get dirty/paint get messed up. even with a different intake and no emissions the carb isnt really THAT visible. know what i mean? if you really want to paint some stuff, im sure there are some rusted parts somewhere on your car that could use it

Yeah I recently rebuilt the one that's on the car right now but the one I'm talking about is just a spare that I've got just sitting around that I'd like to clean up and rebuild anyways so I figured I'd see what I could do with it.

I'll make a deal with you. You get everything clean, and I'll powder coat it for just the cost of powder and shipping the parts back to you. If I already have the powder it will be cheaper. If I have to buy the powder then it's about $10 per color. Here's my old motor I did. The parts need to be super clean though and free of gas, oil, or petrolium cleaners.

I may just have to take you up on that. If I clean the carb thoroughly with carb cleaner what can I use to get all th carb cleaner off? Or should I use something else to clean it all together?

Use brake cleaner (but on on anything with plastic on or in it!) Stuff is perfect prep prep, zero residue, eats about anything.

Polish the aluminum, paint the extra bits.

I bought a plastic oil drain pan at the autoparts store and filled it full of diesel fuel. I set the pieces down in the fuel, let them sit covered overnight, and then brushed them down in the fuel with an old tooth brush (wearing gloves, of course.) Really works wonders. The key is to leave them in there for at least 12 hours. The longer, the better.

I can also put a clear coat over any poliched aluminum pieces. iI will dull it slightly. My altenator and air pump are polished and then cleared powdered.

Actually I'll just go ahead and try to polish it myself and if I fail I'll just have you go ahead and powder coat it.
