One last question for Wackyracer

Thanks again for going through the trouble to double check..
Just two more questions for you (spot checks only), because I think you're RX-7 looks killer with those wheels:

1.) With 15 x 8" wheels can I ask what tires you have on those wheels?
2.) Do you believe you have 15 x 8" front and back? Or would the front be 15 x 7"?

With that info. I will be able to proceed with my order to panasport.
Thanks again.

Thanks to everyone for your responses and picks.
This thread was useful to me.

I hope it will serve other 1st gen RX7 owners who want to know more about panasport or konig style wheels and the question about lower wheel offsets.

Thanks Wackyracer!

Dude, I don't know how you achieved 4.7" backspace with a 15 x 8 wheel.
You must have an offset of +5 or something, which is freaking amazing.

I will call panasport and order some 15 x 7" with around 15 mm offset (and still ask for advice on the lowest fittable offset for the 1st gen from their experience).
I also intend to go 195/50/R15 on front and 205/50/R15 in rear.

One I get the wheels (from freaking Japan) in 6 months, I'll post the pics.
In the meantime, I'll drive my fishbowl-on-roller skates with the bended ET wheels until then and try not to kill anybody.

Do you know how much the Panasports weigh? There is a company called Pack Racing that sells some that look just like the Panas, but I've heard they're relatively heavy. Those would be cheaper and probably not take 6 months to deliver.

I will re-check it again since I did a rush job on it. Pana's doesnt come big fat front lips, its only 2.25 and IIRC, the hub is thick tho.

With tire mounted, I can lift it with no effort, say 2 fingers or so. I have no industrial scale so weighing it aint gonna happen.

Yeah, I re-checked it. It is 15x8, 4.75 backspace and 2.25 lips. It became 8" as the hub itself is 1" thick.

Thanks Wackyracer.
This is great information. Thanks for taking the time to check this all out and double-check.

I called Panasport - they said they'll pretty much give me the offset I want, but it'll take 4 to 6 months for the wheels to arrive from Japan. They guy knows about 4 x 110 and that 13 or 15 x 7 are commonly ordered, but he seemed puzzled about which offset would both fit and look best. He told me offset would be somewhere around 18 to 20 mm on a 15 x 7 wheel.

When I called Mariah, they recommended 15 x 7 with 20 mm offset with 195s front and 205s rear.

The thing I find interesting is that a Konig Rewind wheel, which looks similar to a Panasport wheel in some ways, in a 15 x 7 configuration (4 x 110) and 20 mm offset visually appears more "front-wheel-drive-ish" to me, or with a higher offset.
Maybe it's an optical illusion, but I don't think so.

For a 15 x 8 wheel with 4.75 backspace , I have estimated (perhaps incorrectly?) that the Panasport wheel offset would have to hover around +5, which is custom and a much lower offset than what panasport and mariah have recommended for a 15 x 7 wheel for an RX-7.

All very interesting information. Thanks again.

Well, from experience, if the standard offset on the Epsilons is 4.75", a 7" wide rim with 225/50/15 tires will not clear the fenders lips if the car has lowering springs. Rolling the fenders may solve that. 205/50's do clear, I think. I doubt that 8" wide rims will clear, even with rolling.

Perhaps Wacky can confirm the standard backspacing on the Epsilons, hes has too many of them for one person, lol. My inner shells are stamped 526, which determines the backspacing/width of the inner half of the wheel. What that # means in relation to an actual measurement, I haven't figured that out yet. It may be mm's, but my math conversion sucks.

try some japanese style rims like WATANABE or WORK EQUIP or WORK MEISTERS. if you go to google japan and click the link that is usually where images would be for the english google and type in any one of those names you will see some BAD *** rims.....theres little *** cars that are front wheel drive in japan with sick *** deep dish rims.

I just got lucky that I have 4 sets of epsilons from my bros. I will look into it but the best thing about these 3-piece epsilons is that you can mix-match the lips to fit your application. With 195 series in fronts, I dont have any rubbing even in my blue RX-3, this is prior to upgrading to FB front suspension with no top spacer.

Pix of my bros SA with Panas (same specs as mine). These should help you decide. Just have someone photochop the color to your SA. Good luck

ok ok !!!!! i found almost everything that i can find/ tolerate on this issue of offsets and wheel fitments ect ect. i have seen hundreds of pics of first gens, but all pics have the rims flush with the body and my question still hasnt been answered. i WANT my rims to stick out from the body. i will have 3'' or so fender flares on my car to compisate for this. i live in japan and have access to some amazing rims but am having a hard time getting the answer to my question of getting the deep dish big lip look i constantly see driving around. i know for a fact that it can be done cause theres front wheel drive cars here in okinawa that have a bigger lip than most of the pics of the first gens i have seen so far. ive even seen pics on japanese sites of first gens with exactly what im looking for, but again its hard to ask for this. i do know some people that deal with rx-7's but they seem to have forgotten that the first gen even exists.

ok. so from what i understand is that the lower the offset the further out from the center the wheel will go out. so if i want my rim/lip to extend out 3 inches from the body and the inside stay the same for safe suspension/brake clearance what will be a good size..........i have an SE so of course you know that my off set right now is 40mm.

please dont lash out with some smart a$$ comments about how stupid or what ever i am for asking or posting this but im really having a hard time with this issue. my car is in the states but im all the way in okinawa japan. i have been here for 2 1/2 years and still have not seened 1 1st gen. any one that i try to ask about this issue looks at me like the car its self was never made. i really like the true JDM old school look and have never seen it in the states. i really want to give my car that look but really have no chance for error. can some one please lead me in some type of promising direction !!!!

heres some pics of the japanese 1st gens that i was talking about.........this is exactly the look im looking for but again, most of these sites are in japanese and all these cars are owned by japanese guys, i cant really ask them what fitments they went with.

nice rims man, but i already have an idea of what rims im going to go with. im just worried about fitment. i guess the best thing would be to go with a +0 offset and since im going to be going with fender flares it would be safe to get some 9'' wides in the rear and 7 1/2 to 8'' wides up front. but ive only seen that offset on lug patterns of 4x110 not the 4x114.3. not sure if it matters but thats exactly why im writing and posting.......i want t be 100% sure before i go and spend a couple grand on some JDM rims and then get back to the states and be screwed.
