replacing a fuel tank in an '81

I have an '81 RX-7 that I'm putting an '83 tank in. I have an '81 manual and a 84 manual and the tanks shown in either manual don't look like the one I have. I have 4 Fuel lines on the '81 car. I figure I'll be using the Fuel Main, Fuel Return, and the Vent&Check Valve. I guess I'll just plug the Check&Cut Valve. The '83 tank has 3 lines on it but I don't know which one is which. Here's a pic: http://images.cardomain.com/member_i...27_59_full.jpg

I figure the middle line is probably the Fuel Main. Don't have a clue on the other two.

I would say the line at the bottom of the tank is the fuel return line and the one at the top is the tank vent line. And the middle one you already know.

I suspect John is right but can someone with an '83 manual verify what he said.

I looked at you picture that you posted. You still have the old lines on the tank, 1 line is fuel hose ( it is re-enforced chemical resistant) and the other is rubber vacuum hose.

I will look for a picture to post.

That particular tank was given to me but I'm unable to use it 'cause it was just too rusty. The actual fuel tank I'm using had all the same hose material on it with the exception of the middle one. I should have made notes when I removed it from the car I'll know next time.

There is a pic in this thread (5th reply) that shows which line is which. Only took about a 5 minute search. Instead, you've been waiting 3 days for a reply.

Good luck on the replacement. I just did the same thing recently, '83 tank into an '82. Went smoothly, works great.

I told him which line is which less than 2 hours from the orginal posting. But some people need a picture to understand anything. Maybe he should have asked Santa for shop manual.

Hey slowautoxr, John and I are not trying to make you feel bad, just trying to let you know how to find answers if you need them quickly and no one responds. Or in the case of John's first reply, you just want to verify the answers.

Hope all goes well with the swap.
