Two posts mentioned this and I didn't know if it was add on option or is it something that would help with a 'lack of power w/ accessories on' problem on my 84 12A also, when replacing the alternator can I just buy a generic one(if so what parameters do i ask for) or should I just have them look up a second gen rx7
alternater?
thanks for help

Hey Reed! What exactly is your problem? Lack of engine power? Or lack of electrical power? The cap wont help lack of electrical power. Its designed to produce power for transient surges (like when a big subwoofer goes BOOM). I'd check/replace the grounds and power leads. Bad connections can cause all kinds of troubles.

hey carl- the problem is drain on the battery when accesories are used in combination- the drain is enough to stall the engine(or at least pull idle way down) or shut down the subwoofer(small bazooka type wired directly to battery ) I have added a couple extra grounds and will be checking battery connections etc. the alternater is fairly new and keeps the battey charged and the battery isn't to old- I would like more info on the fared cap as I do have a subwoofer.

Any decent stereo shop should be able to tell you exactly what a 1 farad capacitor will do. Basically, it's like a really big rechargable battery. It's constantly getting charged, and then when your sub, or other accessory, needs a lot of power that the main electrical system can't provide, it spits out enough to make up the difference, then goes back to charging up again. By doing this, there is less chance of getting excess draw on your main system, and thus less blown fuses, engine bog, electircal brown-outs, etc.

thanks for the help- the abbreviation threw me off. Something i will add as my subwoofer does drain other electrical stuff when it beats -don't know if it will solve other problems but it sure makes sense.
