If you can wait until tomorrow, I'll go and draw one. I'm gonna take the tank off tomorrow.. I was gonna do it today, but I wanted someone around in case it fell on me!
Otherwise, someone on here might have a pic or a diagram. I remember a page showing the difference between a GS and a GSL-SE tank, but can't remember if they labeled pickup/return/vent

alrihg that would be cool, 3 of the hoses are hard piped in ( non removeable) so thats what mine looks like if you can picture it. mine is 79 gs also. I can wait if nobody else posts, thanks.

What are you talking about ?? how the whole system is ?? from tank to firewall ?? the GS will have the main, return, vent, tubes welded to the tank. The fuel level sender will be seperate and have a screw-on plate
,,to the tank, 1 large, filler and a vent, thats everything on the tank. And OH,,, if you drain the tank first, it won't be heavy. I used a milk crate to help me out. The -SE tank uses 3 tubes. 1 large (main) 1 smaller(return)1 a bit smaller(vent) the return line is in the middle of the three. All 3 tubes are welded to a plate that screws on to the tank, same filler, same vent, same level sender.

Not sure how much difference there is in the 79 and the 84 tanks.... I know that mine's supposed to be bigger ... but yeah. Which of these tanks does yours look like, or is it different?
Once you tell us that, I'm sure one of us can tell you what goes where... More pictures can be found at:

well that does help, but theres actually another hose, believe it or not, and that the air vent witch has a rubber fitting on the end and you just stick it in the hole. Thanks though, later

Put it in what hole ?? where is the 4th hose, on top? on the side? in another car? it's really not that diffacult to deal with. The above pic's SHOULD be all you need.. If not,,,, what are you thinking your gonna do, change the plumbing of your tank??? ADVICE,,, don't change it, leave it the way it is.. IMO. OK ?

I think he's probably speaking of another hose that does not come off of the tank but rather off of some valvish thing(my techinical mumbo jumbo) directly above it, and feeds through a hole in the frame.
I ran into the same thing when I changed the tank in my '82 GSL this last weekend.

Thats the check valve. every 1st gen's air vent on top of the tank goes to the check valve. The hose from the check valve is the one that goes to the frame. the check valve is for if you roll over = spill no fuel.

Doesn't the check valve also stop fuel flow to the engine in case of a rollover? Or does it just prevent the tank from leaking out the breather?
