Replacement O-rings

Has anyone found some good o-rings to replace the ones under the oil filter pedestal/beehive from a local store? both my cars are starting to leak there and i would get some from maybe autozone/advance, but i'm not sure if they would work right. If i have to I'll get some from mazdatrix or the local mazda dealer, but i'd like to avoid that..

O-rings from a dealer are cheap, you MIGHT spend 5 bucks, just go that route. Or you could upgrade to the better oil cooler below the radiator.

I got mine from the dealer, same day and a low price. However, when I went to get at the rear nut, I couldn't get at it with my air ratchet (which I bought just for that job). So I plan on swaping it out in the spring for the better under-rad design.
Oh, I also got the crush washers. These should be replaced along with the o-rings. The two rings and two crush washers all together were under $6.00 Cdn.

Well, guess I'll go to the dealer then.. the mazdatrix site says the 83-85 used 4 o-rings... does it really? I remember taking my beehive off because of the leak and only found 2 rings when i took it off.. now that my SE needs an air/oil cooler, the beehive is going back on the 12a, so are the oil rings supposed to be double stacked or something? It's been over a year since i've had to mess with the oil coolers..

edit: guess the site might a help a little.. http://www.mazdatrix.com/b7.htm. the o-rings are all the way at the bottom..

Any local parts store worth it's salt should have metric sized o-rings. I've used sae one's that were close with no problems also.

It's just an o-ring. I'll bet they're at least $3/ea from the dealer and you get a pack of 5 for about $3 at Shucks for example.

I *think* there's only two on the beehive. The 4 o-ring info confused me, too. I just ended up replacing it exactly the way it came off - and if I remember correctly, there was 2.

That back nut is a bitch. I ended up jacking up the car and got to it with two or three extensions from underneath...

Hasn't leaked since.

There are two o-rings between the beehive and the pedestal. Then where the pedestal mounts to the enine there are two more....

From what I heard, the 84-85 non-SEs had 4 rings, the others just had two. Don't ask me why, I don't know... and I haven't replaced mine yet, so don't quote me on that.

i just went to Ace hardware and bought 4 13/16" o-rings. 29 cents a peice, way better than 4 bucks.. I did some searching and found a forum member who used some and had success, hopefully i'll do the same.. gonna find out this weekend..

edit: um.. there isn't a pedestal.. the beehive sits in place of the pedestal. I'd go and look but i'm at college.. discrete mathematics is the shiznite....

There is a pedestal. It connects the beehive to the housing. 2 O- rings between the beehive and pedestal, and 2 more between the pedestal and housing. All the same size. What a pain in the *** to get some of the nuts off.

If you take the hardline off, make sure you don't get the copper washer on there crooked. Those things leak like a siv if you booger them up, and if you've got a high-volume pump it'll spew all the oil out before you notice there's an oil leak.

Ask me how I know....

I use viton o rings, I get them here for like around 30 cents/ea. I think I still have some left. They are way better than the dealer or anywhere else. Viton is superior.
