Replace Just Choke Inner Cable, Not Entire Assembly
Replace Just Choke Inner Cable, Not Entire Assembly
Its July 4th, so as a Brit I am sulking and working on the RX7.
Sticky choke. Cable is frayed at the carb end and jamming in the cable housing. (Magnet, temp sensor etc are all working well). Takes a hard pull on the choke **** to close the choke, and sometimes the return spring is not enough to fully open the choke even when the magnet turns off.
Would prefer to replace just the cable rather than the choke cable assembly which includes the box that attaches under the dash... those look to cost around $200 at Atkins. How do you unclip the cable from the box at the dash end? Did some searching here and on Foxed, but no clear answer. Found a reference to the cable being 'crimped' at the dash end suggesting not designed to be removed?
Anyone taken the box at the dash end of a choke cable apart, and worked out how the inner cable attaches inside? I can start dismantling myself, but since I finally have the car running well want to limit down time by having parts available before I start taking stuff apart.
Thanks!

Even if you removed the cable from the electronic portion of the choke cable, a new cable is not available new. I think it would be best ro replace the choke cable as a unit with a new one or one that's used but known good.
