Replace dual coils with single msd?

Replace dual coils with single msd?
my coils arent that great (22 years old) on 84 gsl se. Could i replace them with a single msd blaster coil. I put one on my 351w in my boat and it worked well. would it work on my rx7 and would i need a new distributor?
