Sure they do.. they will even custom drill if wanted. For a price of course.

Speaking of brakes...
Dave Turner was in the process of developing a big brake kit using Wilwood goodies, machined aluminum hat, etc.. but for some reason ceased it.
Maybe I can go convince him that my car would be the ideal prototype

It's usually money.

I had the meeting/car delivery with Valkerie racing today. The air chisel will start flying on Monday. First up, roll cage, followed by fuel cell, followed by rear glass removal and lexan replacment.
Depending on how long it takes to get the engine, the suspension has been chosen, as well as body work. They may come befor engine work. I predict that when the engine starts for the first time, I will be VERY dissapointed if the car is not ready to drive. Still looking for a fiberglass or carbon fiber hood that will directly replace stock.
Panasport wheels of proper dimensions can take a long time - so I should be ordering those soon. Probably the Ultra lights. Not DOT approved - how much trouble can you get in for using them on the highway?

Intial ideas on how to accomplish motor mounts are almost ready.
Surgury tomorrow, so pics may be delayed. Be back in a few days...........

If you're worried about the wheels not being DOT, then you should also worry about the Fuel Cell and Lexan windows.

The windows in the back are ok I think. Side windows and windshield - no way. As for the fuel cell - geez it's safer than what's in there now.

There was a thread from CP racing stating that they are "this close" to finishing a TII brake upgrade. I know I'd buy that in a minute.

It is. Street Legal. NOT a touring car by any means. A concept not too far from the F50. Just not $500k.

Well back in the day when I used to work for him I swear we had them already and it was in the spec-7 package he sold.

I doubt that, because a SPEC-7 is not allowed a BIG BRAKE upgrade. He probably had a stock replacement rotor and pad package though.

Bah whatever! We had something I know that but then again it's been more then 5 years. Either way I still think this car will be in need of some better/bigger rotors. Not only that but racing pads untill they are heated up will eat some rotors and won't fully function from what I've been told. So just using those I don't think are an option for a street car. Just my 2cp, I'm done.

Brakes are last on the list. After shaking the thing down at the track, It will be obvious what to do. It already has new rotors and Hawk blues[I think]. Like I said earlier - it WILL be done right, whatever that may be.

If you are still considering a widebody kit CP racing makes a pretty nice Fiber Glass 5 piece set-up. http://www.cpracing.ca/productimages/1gwidebody.jpg

Just FYI,

I was at SpeedSource on Sat the 24. They built the Mazda RX-8 full race cars going in the Daytona Race this year.

It was part of a tour they gave us guys from the MRCCFL.

They have already tried every exhaust combination possible, every intake combination possible, have tried using the factory ECU, and even a FULL MOTEC ECU running everything.,
Leaning it out/richening the mixtures, everything was done on a Chassis Dyno.

They were brutually honest in telling us many, many things about how great the Renesis is.

HOWEVER,

Even with Multi-Million Dollar Funding, they are averaging only about 203 RWHP on the cars, and the max they have put out is 206 RWHP.

Even this RX-8 with a Full Cat-Back Exhaust only put out 186 RWHP

I am only telling you this so you don't have overly high horsepower expectations from the Renesis engine.

It seems like a significant amount of money for poor HP returns.

That doesn't sound right DF because there is a piggy-back ECU available from Alberta for the RX-8 that delivers 20whp with a fairly conservative fuel map and close to 40 with ignition and fuel timing. Check out the Canzoomer vendor forum on the www.rx8club.com to see for yourself.

I dynoed my RX-8 6 months ago, producing 183rwhp. I was told that the traction control interferes with the dyno results. Under ideal conditions, a bone stock Renesis should be close to the advertised 238hp. I was one of the first to squeel about the mystery missing hp in the Renesis. The RX-8 forum has tons opf info on that saga. We all got $500 and free maintenance for 4yrs/48k miles - or we could give the car back and Mazda would pay for everything. Canzoomer has succeeded in producing 20+ hp with his ECU stage 1 piggy-back and claiming 40+hp with the Race-only version. The system is still very new and these things take time. I am not in a rush.

With all that said, The Rensis is still [by a long shot] the most powerful stock NA rotary available. It will be a VERY reliable, relatively quiet, setup.

Do you have a direct link to Canzoomer's info?

FYI - The RX-8 was designed amazingly well. The aftermarket community is having a difficult time developing parts that offer enough improvement to justify the price/effort. The cat-backs are only worth a few hp. CAI's - same thing. They make it sound cooler, but not really much faster. The RX-8 is a dramatic departure from anything Mazda has ever done with a rotary.

DF - I don't expect high HP numbers - in full race config [ie. no cat, headers] I might achieve 290hp [240rwhp]. Thats 50hp over stock. A mild TII setup could easily pass this. An FD motor would certainly blow it away. The fun part is making a fast car without the complications of a turbo system. It can be done - with cash, brains, and patience.

Ok, I was just telling you what was personally told to me by the head mechanic at that Mazda Sponsered Shop.

BTW, - they got no increase at all using headers over the stock factory exhaust manifold. The engine has no overlap, and is completely closed for 3 full degrees, virtually eliminating the scavenging effect of headers.

I am on your side, and I hope you guys really do pull it off, because I would love a 2nd N/A 1st gen with high HP.

True. Header HP gains will be small and only due to the slightly better flow path. Mazda has totally outdone themsleves with this engine. If anyone can figure out a REALISTIC way to incorporate a turbo, it will be a monster. The compression of 10:1 IMHO makes TC impractical. The seal config on the rotors dis-allows an easy swap from 3g or 2g models.

Removing the cat does help alot, if you can tame the sound.

FYI,

The guys at that shop did start one of the Race cars up, with a straight 3" exhaust and no mufflers. They even reved it up to redline a few times.

Sounds like music, and it was not loud AT ALL. Very quiet infact.

music? You win the rotary fan club "Member of the Year" award for sure. That was funny. What key was it in?
