Renesis into 1st gen?

ok... I know you'll probably see a ton of these threads as time goes on, so what the heck...

Ok, I *may* have a line on a Renesis from an Rx8 already... They're going to be the 1st to go 20b.. What all woudl it take to put this in a 1st gen?

Does anyone know how the engine mounts work on the Rx8?

It'll be run with a standalone, think there would be any shot at keeping the dual length intake track?

How about the tranny? I know the bellhousing bolts are the same, but any clue on the mounting points?

Ah so much stuff... so much stuff...

Why would you need a standalone unless your going to modify the **** out of it? You already have 250 hp. Just do intake, header and full exhaust. In a car that weighs 2300-2400 lbs you'll be rocking. And reliable n/a power.

Well, I think that the FD transmission will fit it, because that's what Mazda uses for the low power model in Japan, so that covers the tranny. I'm not sure about what the engine mounts are like, but the basic casting of the rotor housing is the same any run of the mill 13B. Fuel management is way over my head, so I can't speak to that, but if you could get the wiring diagram for the RX-8 and took your time, I don't see why you couldn't use the factory management system.

yeah, the housings are basiaclly the same... no worries there..

Fuel and engine management aren't going to be any different for the Renesis than any other 2 rotor.. Add fuel, adjust timing, maps etc accordingly. Coltrolling the port openings may be a bitch & a half depending on how they are actuated, but I'm sure this can be accomplised with a coupel RPM actuated switches & solenoids..

This one comes with teh tranny, so I'll do my best to utilize the 6 speed box. already all bolted up, and I wouldn't have to worry about any sort of custoom clutch/flywheel or anything.

I was wondering if the Rx8 motor mounts off the front or rear of teh block and I beleive it goes onto a custom subframe a-la the FD. I shoudl have looked closer at the ones we had out with us last night... http://www.rotarycomponents.com/pics/080603/080603.html

Re: Renesis?

Ok, check this out, the renesis engine is worth in the dealers, with out the intake, nor headers, 5,700 ..... Now, i can give you the engine with the intake, the headers for 5,000

Second, the six speed tranny in the dealers is worth 4,300 now i can give it to you for 3,500.

I'm saving you a total of at least $ 2000 if you add the intake, and the header to it.

Renesis engine mounts are located on the middle plates, one between the rotor housings, and one on the front plate i believe.

very odd.

not sure what tranny would bolt up.

not sure if the se oil pan and front cover trick used for the TII would work, either...

Don't just assume the Rx-8 ECU would even work in another car. There's a good chance the ECU is intergrated into so many sensors and things throughout the car that it won't even run without everything hooked up. Even the JC Cosmo ECU is a nightmare to make work right in another car and it's over 10 years old.

I think you did manntis. When I searched for manntis on the RX-8 forum the website link was to your rotorhead.ca site. Maybe you were drunk at the time. Isn't there a way to recover passwords by submitting your email address? Just a thought.

ha!

yeah, I suspected that your above all other people would be all over this one...

I decided that it wasn't going to be worth the ~$10k to finish out this projec and only have about 200+ at the wheels...

I'll take the crapp gas mileage and continue along the turbo route...
