Renesis 13B

I am trying to figure out if the Renesis has a valve system. Mazda keeps taking about being able to control the opening and closing of the ports. I know the ports are along the side housing now. I keep having these dreams about popping a Rensis in my care someday but don't really like that valve idea.

probably like a 6port deal as with the 2nd gen.or maybe the rotary version of the vtec.at so many rpms the "valves" open up and let more in and equalling more hp

Good Lord! Coolest animation ever!

Follow this link to Mazda's site.

http://www.mazdausa.com/futuremodels...42041&state=CA

Now, click on
"see more"
under RX8

Then click on
"Moving Images"
after the robot does his intro

Then click on the "rotary engine" animation

So cool.

could be like ports 5 and 6 in the 13B GSL-SE and 2nd gen, perhaps...

I'm still trying to get Mazda Canada to commit to a qty of crated engines. They keep changing price & delivery time quotes

Damn good video. I think I figured it out. If you watch the video very closely you can see that there are still sleeves that turn in the 5th and 6th ports. You can see them being put into the engine during the assembly part and can see them turning as the engine rotates. It looks like Mazda figured out how to turn them without using those air restrictive rods that the 13B's have now. I think Mazda is opening and closing them for different durations depending on the engines RPM. This could be a good thing. If they can keep them closed below about 4K RPM and change their duration as RPM rises then they should work wonderfully. Hopefully they have a radius at the end instead of the stupid brick wall 90 degree turn that ours have (excluding Pineapple racing sleeves). We can already tell that the smaller throttlebody is solely dedicated to the aux. ports. If this didn't open until after 4K RPM with the sleeves then all of the engines air would be forced through the smaller runner area into the engine at lower RPM's for greater low end power. Being computer controlled higher up should only help the high end even more so. I am a little confused as to why there is only 1 center exhaust port and not 2 as with the intake. This kind of makes tuned length headers a difficult concept since both combustion chambers vent together before the gasses leave the engine. If the intermediate intake ports were siamesed together you could still get good top end but low end suffers due to reduced velocity through the greater area. This has been done in Japan though with good results on dragsters and is referred to as cross-porting. I guess the added area contributes to better exhaust gas flow. Oh well it apparently works better than peripheral exhaust ports. The area is greater and the timing is less. Seems more ideal for street use. Since the same amount of air has to leave the engine in a shorter amount of time I imagine that the velocity through the ports is extremely fast. Can't wait to bolt a turbo to it!

I'd expect so. Ours are designed for 100-135 HP stock, whereas these are designed for 250 HP stock. How many weeks from the time a Renesis is released until the first turbo is bolted on? Nowadays mags like Sport Compact Car try modding cars that are loaned to them - with mixed results.

The first thing I'm going to do when I get my renesis, is bridgeport the exhuast! Then I see in the MazdaUSA website, it looks to utilize the 6port design also, so I'd take and put in Pineapple sleaves and mildport it. That should get-er up to 300hp!! LOL

By the way, I'm kidding, I will get a wrecked '8 if I do this!

I read in one of the car mags, I think its automobile, the RX8 will have the 10K RPM redline and it will have lighter rotors. The rx8 will be out in May.

Yup. Remember a few months back I mentioned dropping a Renesis into a 1st gen, along with a new interior, upgraded frameless windows etc? You guys told me I was crackers

Anyhoo, I've not been reporting updates because when negotiating it's not good to provide a blow-by-blow in a public forum. Sufficeth to say the struggle continues to obtain 20 crated Renesis(es) (Renisi?)
