Removing rear F***ing caliper

MY 83 GSL w/rear discs started making an odd scraping noise today in the right rear brake assembly...so I figured I'd try to tear it down.

What the HELL is the deal with this e-brake cable? How the do you get it off? I tried loosening the bolts that hold the cable onto that little metal bracket but that did no good at all.

So how do I get the damn thing off?

On the brake handle is an adjustment. You have to take the cover off for access. Loosen the cable tensin as far as you can, this will make removing the cable from the claliper easier. When done resert the cable adjustment so the the e-brake is full engaged with 4-5 click of the brake handle.

I use a pair of plyers to compress the ebrake and then vicegrips to twist and pull the cable out.

I have used this metod several times. However I find that a pair of channel locks give me the leverage i need. Also if you figure out what is making the noise there let me know. I have a similar noise back there and I belive that it is just one of the break pad retaining springs is missing so the pad dose not return far enough to clear the rotor.

Funny I had the same problem two weeks ago. TROCHOID has given the good answer. It sure worked for me. Then, adjusting the Emergency Brake my front cable snapped. Changing that was fun. such is the life of an RX-7 owner.

Ya I just went through all that fun. My cable did not break...yet. But, it took me a loooong time to get the old cables off and the new ones on, espically the pass side where the cable runs above the heat shield. After those the rest of the rear swap was a breeze. If only I had known about the adj. screw TROCHIOD spoke of, it might have been easier.

I got sick of ******* around and just put it all back together...which was a job in itself.

Time to save up for some brakes and then go nuts...so I don't have to do it again for a while.
