removing a clump of wires question

i found this big clump of wires that starts under the windshield washer fluid bottle, it wraps around in front of the engine and and comes to an end witha bunch of connectors... only two of them are plugged in near the bottom of the engine they are small and black. does anyone kno what they are and how i can get rid of the rest of the useless wires... If this is to vague ask i'll try to make it easier to understand.

I believe that'd be your engine harness. Most of that is for the emissions controls. It leads into the car to the ECU under the passenger side floor.

I assume you have a Carbed engine...

Are the connectors different colors and like five up at the top by the carb?

Have you or someone else removed the emission's control equipment? (If they are just dangling, then Yes.)

If so, you may remove them, but it involves unwrapping the entire harness... It will, however drop your weight a pound or two and clean your engine bay up a bit.

yes my engine is carbed.... yes the emmisions contols were removed.... There are still two wires used tho both are black and have small narrow connectors.... the others are of various colors, and are wrapped in wire tubing. any more info about the little black wires would be helpful thanks.

One of those is for the headlamp washer pump. I believe it's got a red and green wire going into the connector. Obviously, you don't need it if you don't have the washer jets.

Near the bottom of engine? Are you refering to the oil pressure and water temp sensors? They are on the driver side of the engine, down low.

The oil pressure gauge would stop working. That's about all that would happen AFAIK.

There are two water temp sensors on the 12A - one on the side of the block and one up top somewhere - I'm not sure which sends a signal to the dash.

If the rest of the emmissions are removed, I don't think removing that water temp wire will do anything bad (other than possibly turn off the dash gauge).
