Question removing carpet?

I want to remove all of my carpet for a super cleaning. Before I begin, thought I would see how difficult it would be. Does the front half of the carpet slide out from under the lower part of the ashtray and stereo console without having to remove the dash or is there more to it than that?
Thanks.
Todd

I just did this last weekend. Your best bet is to pull everything out. seats, center console, shift boot console. It seems like a lot of work, but is actually pretty easy. I had it all out in about an hour.

as far as i can see the dash subframe has to come out, as it is one solid piece of carpet that goes under the heater box. if you find an easier way let me know, cause i've been toying with the idea of putting in new carpet

OK, thanks guys, I will give it a shot. So the entire dash has to be removed and it's not that difficult? I just thought the best way to refurbish the carpet would be to remove it to get a good cleaning done.

The dash has a mount under there that has to be removed. Two bolts in the sides and two holding the plate to the floor.

It is not easy but not hard.

I just cut mine in half, that small section. It tucks back up underneath the dash and no one knows but you.

So after removing those 4 bolts, the entire dash lifts out? Is there anything that holds the top side in place?

No the dash does not come out after that, Just a small bracket that bolts to the floor.

It is one of the parts you need to remove to pull the full dash.

Yes, the 3 screws in the very top. Best bet is to use a right angle screwdriver. Easiest way (but not economical) is to simply punch holes in the windshield with a screwdriver and that gets those little bastards out real fast. Also, when you open the door, there are those small plastic odd shaped pieces. You take the plastic piece off and the there are bolts underneath them. Also I am thinking that there is a bolt up above the fuse box. I am pretty sure there is a writeup on the dash removal. Search for dash conversion. It was a writeup on converting from S2 to S3 dash. It will help you. I did it the hard way on my first parts car, and just "winged it".

to make it look best...steam clean it then do what car dealerships do...spray paint the carpet with whatever color you like...it'll look like a million bucks after!!

IIRC from my '80, once the center dash is unbolted from the floor (what Hades is describing), the front section of the carpet can slide back with careful tugging. The center console and seats being out are probably a must.
