No problem to the engine. However why have a second battery? On the bracket it would vibrate, possibly overheat, and put weight in the wrong place. if you must have a second battery mount it behind the passengers seat.

Only way it'll effect the engine is that you'll be taking about 15lbs off the engine!!!! That's how heavy I think that bracket is!!

Im thinking about setting up a mobile computer to go behind my seat. So i want some extra amps to run it when my car is off. I thought it was bad to put a batt. in the cab because of the hydrogen gas?

good point ! hydrogen gas! mauls people every other day.
Putt it in a metal batt box and you schould be allright, or drive with your lights on so you dont over charge the thing.

I doubt a mobile PC would require a 2nd battery, probably just a better alternator.

If you do put a battery in the passenger compartment, just get a sealed battery, like Optima's or Odessey's.

You should just replace the current battery with an Optima. It will give you the extra umph! You could also put in an inverter so you can run it off of AC like the house. These Optimas are the ****, youll have no issues at all, either way.

The mazda dealer sells a Miata battery for 86$ that's sealed!

And it's strong & small.

Leave the A/C bracket in. Wanna know why?? So you can have A/C!! It is hot in the summer!!

**** optima's they aren't worth the money, trust me i'm in the business.
**** a miata battery too, might as well get a lawn mower batt.

I ran a 500 amp u1 in my race car for an entire season
Go to a local battery store, not interstate b/c they suck,
they don't make batteries they sub the chaepest bid.

For the 86 you pay for a miata battery you can get a huge battery.
ask for a group 24, and if you really got ***** get a group 27.
you should be able to get a group 27 for less than 100 and a group 24 for less than 80.

I'll put it this way, I wanted a battery to run a trolling motor and i had to choose between an optima and a sealed group 24, and they were both free, I'd take the 24.

We've actually got a couple of the optima red tops that didn't hold voltage.

I am forming some of my own thoughts about optimas as well. Ive replaced 2 of them now in the last years. Granted they sit in my car for long periods without being started but i disconnect the terminals and on a few occasions have brought them inside and sat them on a huge block of wood. when i return theyre at 6 volts WTF so i take them in get em checked if bad replaced if not charged up.
