I know someone with remote solinoid activated doors with no door handles on the outside. This way you simply press a botton on your keychain and it opens. Closing the door is tricky as someone pointed out before, but If the power ever fails, theres always the hatch. It was on a late '80s camaro Z28 I saw this on and talked to the owner about what mod's he did because of how unsual the car looked.

my friend had a z28 like that. electric blue with the poppers.

if the door doesn't shut all the way, pop it back open.

Hey, I've got an extra set of the black side mouldings left over from my orange GSL-SE if anyone wants them.

Free + shipping. If nobody claims 'em they'll probably go in the trash. I don't have the room for this stuff.

It's quite the joy to come out to your car and the battery is dead when you shave the door locks like I have done. As Wacky pointed out, I had to open the hatch (thank God, I didn't shave the hatch key...I almost did...) and lean way forward to tickle the inside lock on top of the door ledge to get in throuh the doors...this, after I thought I was so clever by putting an electric over-ride switch to open the doors in case the alarm failed...

mar3.. my plan was to keep the look on the hatch for those purposes... right now my hatch does not even lock, so if i ever lock my keys in the car, i just climb in that way...it is a good back up method.

what did you use for a keyless entry system?

Almost any of the current aftermarket kits have the outputs to lock/unlock doors. Since mine didn't have electric locks to begin with, I had to use two relays that draw battery power for +12V to run the lock solenoids I installed. The Bulldog unlocks and locks the car for me with a bunch of chirping and lights to tell me what I just did...

OH YEAH!!!! Shave it all off!!!!!
I just got started on a Door shaving project for my baby....
This is how she looks now:

And this is how I plan to have her look after:

The doors will have a backp battery and a hidden switch somewhere WAY under the car should I lose or damage the remotes and YES Im keeping my hatch keys JUST IN CASE. Im installing door poppers to push the doors open and Im just gonna have to live with fingerprints on my window or door panels.... But I think she'll look HELLA SAH-WEET!!!
Note that the rearview mirrors will also be painted BLACK to match the moonroof (black) and my motor (yellow and black)

you cant just hide a battery somewhere for backup power supply,
the power from the battery will just feed into your system,

here is how you do it,

get a 1 farad capacitor,
and use diodes to wire it up,

now you have power storage and it wont backfeed.

I used Street rod Door poppers (Spring loaded)
and Selenoids in the doors to pull the handle from inside.
you will want to have a mechanical backup.
as you can loose power, or have a selenoid go bad, then no matter if you apply outside power, it still won't open.
to make a remote open, take some piano wire, and run it thru the fender thru the door where the power wires go thru, and to the door release(latch)
then all you have to do is in an emergency, reach into the fender area, place your finger thru a little loop you've made, and pull, door pops open
of course anyone can do this, so don't show it off, or tell anyone.
and make sure you have a battery backed up alarm.
I only had the driver side done on mine, never got around to finishing the other side.

FWIW, the Viper was not designed to have external door handles or windows. When they made the GTS, they had to make the door latches electric as well as the windows. If the battery dies, you can open the doors by opening the rear hatch and there is a cable pull that you can use to pop the doors open. Similar to Ford electric fuel doors - if the popper fails there is a cable you can pop in the trunk.

The only way that would be easy to work is if the latch is on the car and the striker is in the door - similar to the way the hatch's latch is arranged. But hey, since you're customizing, might as well go the extra mile right?

This is how we did it..
-We used the trunk lock/latch .. which is the same as the doors.. it just mounted pointing up for the trunk..
We had to a small runnber bushing.. that we got from the auto parts store.. "discount auto" to the bottom of the door.. which presses up against the inside of the door sill. This helps push the door open when you press the release button [the key chain alarm] works great.. and you'll have the side of the door to use as a place to hold when opening the door all the way.
We re-routed the hood release.. to the front of the car..[had to use a linger cable] just incase the batt.. went dead.. we can open the hood.. and jumper the car.

call me fukt, but i like the trim guards on there, a'la stock. it makes a great contrast, and when you park in the real world, you don't have to hire an armed guard to make sure nobody dings your doors. hell, right now, i get totally pissed when someone whacks my car with a door, side guards and all.

I thought you might appreciate a clean un-doctored photo in daylight of my door which has the shaved door lock look. I kept the handles for the reasons I mentioned earlier in this thread. I still haven't gotten around to painting the handles themselves flat-black as opposed to the "factory" gray color the sun has given them...

Bulldog Pro5something or another..got it for $50 US...I had to set up relays for the doorlocks, though, because my car didn't have electric locks from the factory. It was all very easy, actually...I might start a thread on the what's and where-to's if enough interest is out there...

i am certified in alarms so my opion does count,

if you need an alarm i can hook you up with an avital pretty cheap,
that goes for anyone here,
i get the avital 3300 systems at a real nice price,
there a bit over kill for the rex
"keyless entry
hatch pop
remote start
dual stage shock sensors"

there manufactured by DEI
they are the #1 ALARM COMPANY IN THE WORLD

anyone who knows alarms will tell you that

for the keyless entry you will need to add actuators,
i found the best ones to use are the bestbuy brand from best buy,

get them over the dei, just trust me,

you will also need to get what is called a 5 wire
you can pick that up from best buy as well,
it will be made by DEI

the price on the avital 3300 is $200.00 shipped for anyone,
best buy wants $350.00

if you live closer we can work out an even sweeter deal,
P.M. me if anyone is interested
