Remember the indiglo gauges I started? Who wants A-pillar pods?

Ok guys, I know that the indiglo gauge thing I got going a while back was a seemingly good thing, and some people liked it (although Im still waiting for people to buy in on the 81-83 gauges...). Well the other day I found out that www.gaugepods.com will make custom gauge pods in the same way the indiglo gauges worked. You need to get enough people to preorder them and they will start making them. I know some of you will say "a 2nd gen pod works just fine with a heat gun". Well, what about those who dont have heat guns? Of those who just want simplicity? I have been talking with the people there, and they agreed to make a full pillar replacement that will hold three 2 1/16" gauges. I need to send them a pillar so they can make a mold and then tell me how much they will cost for everyone to buy them before they start making them. I just dont know which year pillar to send them. I have an 83, and I want to be able to use what theyre making this time, but the pillars from 81-83 and 84-85 are different. Does anyone know if I could just use a pillar from an 84-85 in my car? The 83s have a vent on the pillars for heat/air to come out to defog windows...Will the 84 pillar still work? Do they have something like that in them also? Because if I can send them an 84 pillar from my parts car and they can get started. If not, Im sending them an 83 pillar, lol. Any advise or comments would be great guys. Thanks.

~T.J.

EDIT: Just to clarify, this is a full pillar replacement. Meaning, no "add on" pods. It will completely replace the stock pillar cover for a smooth clean look, and it will hold three gauges so you dont have to buy a dual pod and another single pod. If you just want the "add-on" pods, they make them at www.gaugepods.com already.

Well, since you can't actually leave a message w/o registering at CarDomain.com ( and that ain't gonna happen...), I'll just say I will buy your pillar...I've got an '83 coming into my life here in a few days and I want the seamless look....no tacky 3M crapola...

Ok, well Im not the one selling them. I have to send the pillar to www.gaugepods.com and they will make it, then give me a price that they will sell them at. Then, I tll you guys the price, and its up to you whether you want to buy one from them or not. Im just trying to get the ball rolling like I did with the gauges. I just want to know what pillar I should send them .

I have an 83 Manntis, otherwise I would get that in an instant . Good choise for those of you who have the 84-85. All the more reason for the 81-83 people to preorder the pillar Im trying to get made .

~T.J.

PS - Manntis, maybe you could talk to the people at www.gaugepods.com and re-sell their pods they already make for out cars through your site as well?

Ok, so I wasnt the first on the ball this time like I was with the damn gauges that spread everywhere and became everyone elses idea, lol.

Anyway, it looks like they have one for the 84-85 cars in the works. Maybe they will be available soon after all...The only thing I missed was that they didnt tell me how many gauges its gonna hold...Or did I truly just miss that part?

~T.J.

EDIT: No one has updated that thread since Feb. 2nd 2002...Does this mean that nothing has happened with it? Lets get this going again!!

Heres a link to what I posted there: http://mazspeed.bcrx7.com/forum/thre...id=1&page=3#43

So basically, I think were just back to square one. Im gonna try and find out if the pillars are interchangeable between the differnt years. If so, Ill send them an 84-85 pillar. If not, theyre getting an 81-83 pillar...Hahaha . Anyway, I really want this to happen, so if I send them a pillar and they quote me a price, Im gonna expect some people to want them...I only need like 20 people to want them so they will make them!!!
Attention car clubs and Internet mailing list groups. We will manufacture a custom gauge pillar for your vehicle! Just confirm a minimum order of 20 pcs. Prices starting at just $20 for single add-on pods. Full-length pillars as low as $39. Email or call for details.
By the way, here is a link to what is already available: http://www.gaugepods.com/rx7.htm

I'm in for two if they make 'em. One for Elanore (my 85 SE) and one for Dart (Sarita's 85 S)...

To answer your question, a 84-85 will not fit a 81-83, remember the dash is different, and the part that goes down by the dash is different, trust me I tried it

However a 81-83 will fit a 79-80 if you drill out the screw holes a little to accept the metal clips the 81-83 uses. You also have to drill out the top sides of the roof to accept the pieces that mate with the a pillar plastic pieces.

I personally think Three gauges on the small FB "A" pillar will obstruct your vision too much, and create a bad blindspot.

I had the three on my "A" pillar (2+1), and didn't like it. Believe me, I love as many gauges as possible, I just didn't wan't that big a safety hazzard.

Just make sure you want the three, or preferably two.

I thought about that. But, I actually have no other places Im willing to mount gauges, so thats wher theyre going. I just dont want the 2+1.

So, since it appears that the 81-83 style will fit the 79-80 with mino modification, that seems like the one Ill send them. Hell, maybe Ill send them both so they can design both and then may the best pillar win . Anyone else think this sounds fair? If the 79-80 people are willing to mod a little bit to make it work, the 82-83 & 84-85 people have their own, then everyones happy .
