IN reintalling fuel tank

I was working on it this weekend got the filler neck mounted to the tank along with all the hoses. I am having some problems getting the staps back on but I read a few helpful treads. But my question is priming the system how should I go about doing this so I dont burn up a good pump?

With the straps, I find it easier to have the rear bolts in place (next to bumper) and then use front bolts to strap it down. The front bolts are longer, which can be a big help.

For priming, I never bothered. However, if you wanted, the best way would be to unplug the feed line at the carb, use a funnel, and fill the line with gas. It should run back to the pump and prime it.

I go with what gsl=-se addict says about installing the tank, but for priming the pump, its easy, get any IV hose or any hose and connect it to the end of the fuel pump, where the hose that goes to the engine goes and have someone crank the car while you suck on the hose until you see gas coming in from the hose(suggestion get a clear hose, so you can see where the gas is at, real easy to take a gulp of gas if not clear) after you do that then disconnect the hose and connect the other hose and then crank the car around 3 times and your good. Don't get intimidated by the way i do it, it's just the CUban way of priming fuel pumps. good luck

5 gallons is alright, just suck on the hose until, you see the gas in the hose, then just connect it back to the regular fuel line, remember to crank while you suck on the hose

I, too, have never bothered priming. As many fuel filters I've replaced, and how many times I've dropped my tank, psh. It's such a brief time span.

Ok I put a little over 2 gallons in it and the I primed it but its like there aint enough gas in the tank. I am getting uneven fuel fuel flow. Could it be that I dont have enough gas? I ll add another 2+ gallions tomorrow. I didnt see any leaks so I really hope to get it running this week so I can start driving it to work next week.

It all depends on the pickup I would guess you have enough gas

yea its still not pumping a good steady stream of fuel to the carb and it souds like it blowing air back into the tank. I dont have time to drop the tank agian I got to get it fixed or gone ASAP.

OK i double checked the hoses I have them right. The problem i am having is spitting fuel delevery to the carb. Also sounds like the pump is pumping air back into the tank. I whould assume this is from the return but I dont remember it doing that before. So what could cause some or all of these problems? O and I have tried a different pump with the same issue.

an air leak in your fuel lines somewhere but you would think that it would leak gas also
