Reinstalling Steering Wheel

I removed my steering wheel to replace a broken combo switch.
But now steering wheel doesn't seem to seat itself far enough down onto the splines
of the steering column. I can get the nut on.
Looks like i have another 1/4 inch to go before the brush for the horn
contract will even touch. But it seems like that's as far down as the
wheel wants to go. Does this need a press? It was that hard to remove
in the first place.

Maybe i have the wrong combo switch? The combo switch had a self-centering
pin that goes into a hole in the steering column. So there's only one way for
the combo switch to go on. I think I already tossed the old one away, so
I can't compare. But everything lines up and works like it did.

I've turned the wheel and tried every possible spline combination
to see if maybe I had it misaligned. But it's the same all the way around.
I'm positive that I have it dead center now.

But before I try to crank it down even harder, I thought I'd ask u guys.

Thanks!

The steering colomn has plastic clips in the middle. Sometimes they break which causes the steering shaft to go down a little. If that happens, you have to take the steering box out, remove the plastic that holds the steering shaft and put a screw in both sides to steady it. Put the steering wheel on,,screw the nut & it will go in.

If nothing is binding or caught, preventing the wheel from seating farther down, use the nut to draw it down as you tighten it.
