Rebuilt s4 NA block high idle

I have seemed to eliminate all possible vacuum leaks and replaced every possible gasket on the intake portion of the engine. Replaced tps. Timed it. Calibrated tps. And the lowest idle I can get without it bouncing is 1500rpm... Motor has not seen the road yet. All stock counterparts except for banjo pulsation dampened delete. Any ideas?

How much run time does the motor have?

Mine took a couple weeks of daily running and a few dozen miles until i could get the idle under 1500.

Make sure you're CAS is timed correctly. Mine would bounce bad as the ECU retimed itself.

Yeah I wouldn't expect a fresh motor to idle right.

The N/A motors have the throttle stop screw don't they? Should be on the opposite side of the throttle body from the TPS. Turn it out to drop the idle, then readjust the TPS from there. If the idle won't drop then your cable could be too tight. The BAC also effects idle, but I wouldn't adjust it until you've eliminated all other possibilities.

Is the motor streetported or ported in any way? Are you running open 5/6 ports?

Both will contribute to a bouncy idle.

S4 block stock port, 460 injectors, nothing crazy. Sounds good, I was begining to think that I was losing it, trying to find a leak that didn't exist! As soon as I got a steady 1500 idle I was able to get the timing done and man was it soo advanced!!!!! The manifold was glowing red when I would just le the motor idle for 20-30 minutes and ran hot. I was thinking that it was normal since I had taken most of the stock shields off the stock exhaust manifold.

1500 rpm is not an idle speed so trying to set the timing there won't work right. The stock ECU advances the timing at that speed too, and that will throw you off.

You have to get the idle below 1K more around 750 to set the timing correctly.

Mine is about 5 degrees advanced at 1500 rpm.

5 degrees advanced at 1500? Ill see if I can leave it at when I time it again. I'm going to try to either remove the thermowax because I do think its probably stuck or repair it

finally fixed after chasing vacum leaks, timing and adjusting the TPS.....all of which where already fine! this car never came with the PCV solenoid so i had a hose running straight to the intake snorkel..... added the solenoid and now im idling at 700 rpms.....
