Unhappy Rebuilt Carb, Revs High then dies, no Gas flow

Hi all,

Please help. I rebuilt my Nikki Carb, the floats are perfectly set (checked, rechecked, checked again), all the **** is plugged in. There are no vacuum leaks (checked, rechecked, etc), the linkage for the accelerator seems too long, and the gas pedal seems very mushy. When starting it up using the correct procedure, and some starting fluid, it will start and immediately bury the needle on the tach and then that burst provided by the starting fluid runs out, and it dies immediately.

Frustrating.

Other notes: We performed RX7Carl's Rats Nest Removal successfully. I don't believe that the floats could be stuck, as I just checked them again.

Help.

Also, it doesn't seem to be getting any gas.

I have done searches, but I haven't found any problem like this one.

As this is my daily driver, I need to fix it ASAP.

Thank You.

I like your idea there. I will pull off the fuel line from the carb in the morning and see if it pumps any gas through when I turn the key. It has been quite a tempermental rebuilding and installation. I have faith that it will run like an angel when I get it set up right and tuned well.

Donna, what have you been working on on yours?

FYI: The fuel pump on the 85 won't turn on until the engine starts cranking. You might want to bypass the fuel pump cut relay.

my relay went bad causing the pump not to work, i ran a hot wire to the pump and put an off/on toggle switch to cut the fuel off when i need to...i had to replace my accelerator pump diaphram,,,then it wouldnt start till i noticed a loose vaccum hose at left/rear of carb,,a big hose......now it fires up good,,,,,check your linkage, may be stuck...giving too much gas on startup....

Mine went bad also about a year ago. It's hot wired, as Donna's is, and it's been fine.

There is a switch (on/off) on the dash that I haven't figured out yet. Perhaps someone has done this to my vehicle when they owned it.

I have just installed a new fuel pump on the car, and I am still getting the same old results. I am not getting any fuel at startup. I believe the problem to be fuel wiring.

Since I have done RX7Carl's rats nest removal tutorial, there are like 3-4 unused couplers on the passenger side of the carb. The problem is that three of them could possibly fit this certain coupler that connects to the back of the carb. Does anyone know which color is the correct one to connect to this??
