rebuilding my 12a....any tips?
OK guys....i've finally got the money saved up and purchased an Atkins's rotary "master" rebuild kit for one of my 12a's. I'm either going to rebuild my original engine that came with my '79 or the '83 (which i prefer) that i bought used off ebay. so what i'm posting this thread for is for any tips anyone can provide, i am a master ASE certified automobile tech and that is what i do for a living. however, i specialize in brakes, alignment, and A/C, but am proficient in most aspects with the exception of rotary engines...and have never rebuilt one. so what i am looking for is any tips or advice on rebuilding them. any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

better yet - get the FOUR DVD instruction set from:
http://www.diy-re.co.nz/
FAR superior, much, much MUCH! more important details than single DVD-Atkins (I bought both).
$110-ish VERY well spent - heck, sell it for $60 after your done with it.
Also - some nice video tips on Pineappleracing.com's site

From the same link, download "How to modify your RX-7"; much good theory and explanation of what is critical and what is not.
When cutting side seals, the adage "measure twice, cut once" saves a a lot of grief.
Make sure you check your shaft end-play with the engine horizontal and using only finger pressure.
It's easier than rebuilding a boinger, but you have to pay attention to different things.

my method is simple, but takes forever. clean everything up. in the FSM there is a page in the back that lists all the clearances for everything in the motor. measure everything, replace what is not in spec.
if you need an explanation of what to measure its in the engine section of the manual.
assembly; i literally just follow the book.

I would add, before ordering anything, take the engine apart and check to see what is usable before placing an order. This might help determine which kit you need and if additional part are need to be sourced. 12A housing are getting hard to find and you generally have to take apart several before finding good ones.
