rebuilding the carby

Well, i got the carby off, and saw a few things that made me think. first of all, inside the intake manifold, is a 5th throttle plate. and there is a plastic plate with 5 or so vacuums going to it, but one of the barrels narrows out a bit. so i have 3 questions,

1. can i take out the fifth throttle plate?

2. can i get rid of the plastic plate, or at least port it out without causing damage?

3. will a gas tank from an '84 fit in my '83?

trying to restore a '83 RX-7 sitting since '92. reason why the parked it in 92 was because the gas tank had a hole in it, from road debris, and now its a bit rusty.

1) yes, make sure you seal the holes

2) you need those for your emissions. If you have taken them off you need to plug them the right way to make sure you dont have a vaccum leak. Dont see a reason to port it. The holes are the same size of the carbs

3) yes

1- yes as Matt said but it wont help flow as the bore is purposely oversize to compensate for the additional restriction. Notice how much bigger it is compared to the other primary?

2- No you must keep it. The linkage will bind from the carb sitting too low. Yes you can port it to match the carb bores but the steps are there for a reason. They help fight intake reversion at low rpms.

3- Yes.

Your not supposed to remove the factory gaskets, they are bonded to the spacer and dont come off easily. You *might* be able to glue new ones on but its probably shot. Try to find a used on in the parts for sale area. Make a WTB thread. New from mazdatrix (if they still have them) is like $150. When you removed the gaskets can you see the channels in the spacer?

Cant see your car pics (work blocked) Can you snap pics of the spacer?

im just gonna go for a weber, since i know for a fact the engine runs. there is no fuel going to the carb at all. lines are not plugged (anymore). so fuel pump doesn't seem to work. know where i can get a cheap fuel pump? or should i buy a weber intake manifold and carb from racing beat?

engine ran great on starting fluid btw.

I think you'll need a pressure regulator. The stock carb needs about 2- 2.5 psi of pressure. Anymore than that and you'll just be blasting fuel down the carb and running very rich.
