Rebuilding Brake Calipers

I have the rebuild kits for the front and rear calipers from NAPA. Neither of them came with the two types of grease that the HELMS manual calls for. I got caliper grease for when I reinstall them, but can't seem to find the red stuff they call for. Know where I can get that so I can make a writeup on this?

Most brake caliper rebuild kits will not contain the correct 2 types of grease that are called for in the Mazda FSM. Sounds like your Helms manual is the same.

What I found (through research) is that the orange and red grease types are used in different places in the calipers for different purposes, though most of the brake caliper grease (not caliper MOUNTING grease for the pins) will work fine in both locations.

The 'inner' grease is supposed to be non-soluble in brake fluid so that you retain it's repellent properties to keep the brake fluid behind the piston seal. The other grease is then applied to the rubber boot to further seal the piston and so that the rubber boot is not destroyed by brake fluid. Most greases sold specifically for brake PISTON seals is fine for both locations because they contain new blended materials to serve both functions.

In other words - don't worry about finding the 'special' grease, just use a good quality grease meant for that purpose. This is NOT the same as caliper pin grease. Hate to keep mentioning that, but don't want to mislead you into a mistake on reassembly. HTH,

Thank you very much for the help. When I rebuilt my honda calipers I had no problems, but I didn't have to find all the different kinds of grease either.
