Rebuild or Replace?

Hey Guys what's up? I'm buying an 84 rx7. It has a blown factory motor. The seal's blown so only one rotor was functional. I was wondering if it would be worth rebuilding it. I have the parts to rebuild it. The guy I'm buying from says I'd be better off spending the money and converting it to a v-8. I have a limited wallet and I was just wondering what your thoughts were.

first,

does your state require a smog.

2nd,

if it does and you convert to a v8 you must include all smog related equipment that the car which the v8 came with to have your car smogged.also you will need to get certified by the refferee.the car will be certified as having a " ENGINE CHANGE ".

if you need no smog.i would not rebuild it and get one done profesionally.

You'd be better off rebuilding that rotary or replacing it with another rotary! If you already have the parts to rebuild it, then do that. While you have the engine opened up, port the intake and exhaust ports too! You'd be suprised at just how much power these little rotaries can generate and how much easier they are to work on than a V8.

You didn't mention what model the '84 is that you purchased. Does it have the 12a or 13b engine?
