Rebuild question

Is it neccessary to replace the metal oil carriers during a rebuild? Anyone know the min. tolerance before they need replacing?

Thanks, Ed

Are you asking about the oil pump? Theres a tolerance in the manual thats measured with a feeler gauge.

I think he's talking about the oil rings on the rotors.

I always replaced them, but if they are in spec; your call. That little bit of money to prevent a full tear down again is worth it to me. Oil rings are prone to failure, too. Preventative maintenance during a re-build, but thats my opinion.

Ok, well at least replace the o rings and springs. The metal seals are a bit pricey. Like you said, your call.

Yeah I'm reffering to the oil rings(metal) on the rotors. I did not know if you guys were replacing them with every tear down. I have a set off a 12A that hardly smoked on start up. I was going to use them on my 4port and just replace the oil orings and springs with ones from atkins.

Thanks, Ed

i'll be re-using them on my next build-up. i plan to change the seals and springs only. in the past, i have replaced them, but then again i haven't built that many engines. it's a financial decision this time around.
