Rebuild Question

Hey guys, I plan on rebuilding a 12a that I got my hands on to get my car going again, I was wondering if it'd be fine to rebuild the carburetor at the same time, or if I should do the carb first, tune it a little, then take the engine out and rebuild it? Thanks for the advice

I would personally want a carb that's ready to go on a fresh engine. If it were me personally, I would rebuild the carburetor and install it on the engine now and get it dialed in. Who knows, the engine may run great and not need a rebuild right away. You can compression test it once it's in and running and decided where to go from there.

So for the carburetor I've read a post that was really good for setting it up by adjusting the idle and all that, it was here https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generati...e-carb-310927/
I was wondering if this makes sure it doesn't run lean? Also if it works for high altitude, I live in Colorado so we're about 6800 feet above sea level, and thanks! I'm gonna work on rebuilding the carb in the next week or so

Do carb first, see if the old engine still has issues. Then go with the new engine if still a problem with power.

If this is a stock carb with the full emissions/rats nest intact and working correctly, it should deal with the altitude issues pretty much on its own once its rebuilt and clean. Theres altitude things on the carb and in the nest that adjust the mixture for altitude.
