Rebuild and porting questions.
So I am planning to pull my motor and streetport and rebuild it this summer. I would like to be able to run high rpms after the rebuild to take better advantage of the streetport. I know I need to replace the water and oil seals, and the cover seal, and the apex seals. What else is suggested. I am planning on hardened stationary gears. Do I really need different/better apex seals to run up in the 8-9k range? What else might I want to put on there? I already have a webber 45 dcoe and a RB streetport exhaust. Also in this same vein, while I have the RB streetport templates for the size I would really like to have some pictures of what the ports shape should look like. Anyone have any pictures of their ported housings? Oh and where can I pick up that rotary rebuilding video, I know I could search and I will but I figured since I had your attention I would ask now. Thanks so much in advance guys. I am really looking forward to this project.

there have a few videos. i think the rebuild video is of a 13B 6 port engine but its pretty much the same deal

i am also curious as to what internal engine mods should be made to safely up the redline to say 9 or 10 grand. like hardened stationary gears. bearings balanced rotors, clearence and stuff?? is that correct? and what else?

apex seals are the most important for a moderate increase in top RPM, since the main limit of revvin in a rotary is the harmonics of the apex seals , this is why thinner/lighter seals dont chatter until higher RPM

If you only going to go 9-10 grand and your existing bearings are still good, i would suggest to just leave them there, that is what i did with mine and i go at least 10k. Of course if you are planning on going like 12k then defenetly change them. I also use just regular factory apex seals cause they don't break as easily as carbon ones and can take more advance and boost, not to mention they last longer.
I'm going to try to make my port picture the right size and open a new post with it.

thanks guys
much obliged for all the info
from what I'm seeing it seems all I really need is hardened stationary gears to hit 10k
what about clearancing issues?

Go to mazdamotorsports tech section and they talk a lot about clearances. If you are going for 8K + rpm you'd better get as many new components as you can and additional clearances necessary. Just swapping in hardened gears ain't gonna cut it if you want it to last a bit longer than a few thousand miles. Call up some known rotary shops and ask them what they do.
