Rebuild or Paperweight: fixing the PO's carb mistakes...

Hey Guys,

I brought back a little project with me last time I was home to visit the car... one of 3 carbs that came with it, I'm considering cleaning it up and rebuilding it (its the worst condition one of the batch) but now that I have it somewhere well-lit I'm noticing a few things that are missing.
Reading along in the mazda carb manual, a few of the things that are specified as 'DO NOT REMOVE' items are removed... specifically (that I've seen so far) the throttle sub return pivot/assembly, and most of the linkages on the throttle... (see pic)

The question I put to you is this: If I successfully rebuild this carb, clean it up and make it work well (stripped of emissions), can I swap the throttle linkage bits from another carb onto it, or is it really best as a paperweight?

Thanks

Matt

It looks water damaged. Take the top (air horn) off and see how much white powdery stuff is in the bowls. Then decide.

If there is a lot, is it just a paperweight?

...I've got a feeling there is going to be a lot... ...plus it looks like the choke is frozen open... lol

None taken... I was just looking for some second opinions (before I waste any money on it )...

Guess I'll pop the top and see what it looks like inside... ...worst comes to worst, I'll have a 3D assembly guide for the other 2 (in MUCH better condition... )

Got the air horn off, this is what I found inside....

Doesn't look too bad, although a bit dirty/bit of varnish...

Second opinions?

clean it by bathing it in gas for a day or two. make sure you want to rebuild this one and do it. as long as its working correctly with no excessive binding or rust pitting it should be ok. clean it with carb cleaner after the gas bath and start the rebuild. you can swap other parts over to the carb but if you have others that are more worhty, use them.

...I'm kinda leaning towards rebuilding the other carbs.... the choke plates on this one are still all bound up, and pretty damn rusty too... maybe this'll become my parts carb....

...I knew I should've brought those wheels back with me.... now I'm out of projects!

(well, atleast, car related projects... okay, MY car related projects... still have a sub enclosure to build... lol)

Thanks guys!
