Rearview mirror frustrations

Yeah yeah, I've already done a search on them but none seem to apply to what has happened to me. My mirror fell completely off the little arm thing that comes down from the map light because the screw on the back came out. Does anyone know how to fix this, because I tried for about 45 minutes and didn't get anywhere (I can't seem to get teh arm thing back into the mirror tightly, oh and the screw is stripped). Somewhere where I could buy a replacement would be ok too or anyone interested in selling me one, I've got an '85 GSL with grey interior I guess. Thanks

I bought a different mirror from a PartsSource store and put it on the center of the dash, like the old Porsche 356 Speedster used to have and it completely changes the feel of the driving experience because you no longer have to move your head to see around the mirror at the top of the windshield. Like when you are trying to see the stop lights at an intersection, it is also very comfortable to use and see behind you in this location.
Just hold it there on the dash for a minute and you will see what I mean,K?

Yeah, I've been sawing off that #@!$% mirror for years and mount a $15 parts store mirror down low on the dash. Much better. You can also glue one to the windshield down low. Makes it more like a trad roadster. I guess the std mirror isn't in the view of shorties.

Thats pretty hard , for the mirror to 'fall' off, or for the ball to pop out. yeah you can pop the mirror back in, but it will not tighten up,,,,ever ! you could always glue it ?
i've got an extra FB rear view mirror, good condition.
it even has that rubber piece that goes around the arm
and rest's against the windshield, for vibration risistent.

Darn it so there's no way to get the mirror back on the ball? I have all the parts I just can't beleive that it came off nor am I anxious to replace something I have all the parts for. Oh well I guess that kind of thing happens.

Speakin' of mirrors.........

Whada ya guys think of the side view mirrors? Personally I think they suck. They're to small and positioned to far back and thus requires a turn of the head to look in 'em. Just one of my few complaints about the car.

you can always try some 2ed gen electric mirrors.
I agree, the mirrors would be better if they were at
the front of the doors more, where the corner of the glass is.

Oh cool Oliver, I may try that!

Hey Bob, how bout mounting them Savannah style? I been thinking of doing this to see how it works. Just extend the wiring to the fender. And while were on the subject, any racers wanna share their side view setup? With the net, my drivers mirror is worthless.

With mine properly adjusted, I just have to turn my eyes not my head...

I have to agree that adjusting the mirrors so that they're almost all the way turned out does help with the blind spots. That's a trick I discovered years ago, so properly adjusted or not I still hafta turn my head. Physically the mirrors are just to far back. Keep in mind that I'm 6'2", my seat is all the way back AND tilted back as well.

It can be taken apart all from the outside of the car. It's not tricky at all. Start with the two screws under the mirror and keep going. I think a phillips head screwdriver is all ya need.

you are only legally required to have the drivers side mirror, you dont have to have the passengers side or inside rear view mirror, so my car doesnt have them hehe

Oh, and the mirrors work just fine.

Maybe in your area.

In Canada you must have the inside rearview mirror and if your car was originally equipped with a passenger side mirror it must also be present

I'm thinking of making some FC side mirrors fit my 7, maybe. I also like, and as soon as i find a set of porsche
side mirrors those will go on. that one guy in europe with the mariah mode one has mirrors kinda like a porsche, he says that they are stock.
