Rearend leaking...

Yeah, the thing is stock. From an 82 GSL. I bet it would love a rebuild. You think I could do it? I've never done something like this before? Oh..and what gear oil you think I should use?

Where's it leaking from? You should only ever snug the drain and filler bolts as they're tapered. Continually over-tigtening will damage them and they'll never work right again.

I'm not quite sure where it's leaking from. I figure since it's pretty old the seal is one bad. I have never touched the drain or filler bolts.

the way it was explained to me is that mazda doesnt use any tipe of gasket on the differential, and it seals ok untill the bolts eventually come loose.

Just retighten all the bolts, thats all you really can do. As far as gear oil goes, for the differential get some Redline 75W90. You can get that over at summit racing. Its pretty expensive (~$9/qt.) but its deffinately worth it.

Well it was fine till I tried to go around a corner. The inside wheel would chirp basicly the limeted slip mech. siezed, when the gears broke. I was able to fix it with the spider gears from a GSL rear end.
I got lucky and the gears on the axel shafts were not damaged it works fine now, but its not something you will want to mess with, with out some Professional help Good Luck

hmmm...i have the same problem...

as per my rx7 guru there is a seal but no gaskett. i went to autozone and bought the sealant and am waiting for the rain to stop so i can apply the seal.

i haven't checked if the bolts were loose though...i'll check that today and see if it still leaks. if it still does leak then i know that a seal has to be applied.

OMG!!!

4 of the bolts were loose 2 of which were halfway out!!! I tightened them up and placed papertowels underneath to see if its still leaking.

They must have come loose on my trip to SC...600 miles...
